Great for a spare TV
Review of NETGEAR Digital Entertainer HD EVA8000 by 6heads

Advantages: HD footage anywhere in the house, quality
Disadvantages: wi-fi not always capable of HD streaming

A great addition to any HD tv you may have in your house, perfect for a secondary TV such as a bedroom this will allow you to stream from your PC to the TV over wifi in HD. Although there isn't exactly what could be considered a huge amount of HD on the net you are legally allowed to rip Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies. Streaming devices for music and standard definition video have been around for a couple of years now and have done their job perfectly, it ...
...reasonable prices. The EVA8000 coming in at just below £200 is a lot cheaper than a blu-ray player with more features. Connections: -Scart -S-Video -Component Video -A 1080i HDMI socket (although this will be upgraded to 1080p via new firmware) -Phono Output - Coax and Optical Digital outs -Ethernet Jack -USB The EVA offers two different ways to stream the footage, wi-fi or Ethernet, I would definitely recommend using Ethernet if possible ... It doesn't do dishes but it records DVDs.
Review of Samsung DVD VR350 by sadoldbag

Advantages: Good range of features for the price
Disadvantages: not HD ready, no Freeview, I've seen sexier machines

Around Christmas time DH and I decided it was time to give up on using the old VHS to record things, and this was compounded by the integral-to-the TV DVD player packing up (review available - DMTech LQ 20X). Since we've just taken out a subscription to LoveFilm.com (Review also available LOL) we needed a DVD player, and with all those great films on over Christmas (er, shome mishktate shurely, ED), one that recorded seemed the perfect answer. Why ...
...so you can still watch those old Bond movies ....It cost me £180, but I think you can get it cheaper now. It records to DVDs, but doesn't have a hard drive. It doesn't support HD. But then I don't have an HD telly or box, so that doesn't worry me at the moment. It's black and grey (like brushed aluminium things best myself) but is not offensive to look at. Being dual purpose it is quite bulky compared to a straightforward DVD player. It doesn't ... Read review

D-Link DSM-520 - HD heaven, or hell ?
Review of D-Link MediaLounge DSM-520 High Definition Wireless Media Player by g8ina

Advantages: Plays MP3, photo and movie over your network to your HiFi/TV.
Disadvantages: Stutters very badly on any HD content.

...last week to order the D-Link DSM-520 from Komplett.co.uk at £172 inc VAT & del. Reasons for buying : I wanted to stream HD movies, photos and music. Reviews have been mixed, admittedly, but seemed to indicate that this was the best of the bunch. I also looked at the Freecom and the Pinnacle before deciding. The DSM-520 arrived on Monday 4th Dec 2006, and was installed very easily and quickly. That part at least was painless. I used D-Link's own ...
...pen drive. * The D-Link media server is actually not as bad as some other reviews make it out to be. One very minor niggle though, was in playing MP3 files from one artist - it showed me the list of tracks, with all Track 1s first, then all Track 2s, and so on. Using the album feature got around this, but the interface is still just very slightly clunky on MP3. The TwonkyVision server seemed to have some good and some bad points too but I'm not ... Simple to use combined DVD/VCR
Review of Samsung DVD V6700 by gadget_hound

Advantages: Easy to use, quick operation, good quality playback
Disadvantages: Remote control buttons small, front panel display small and basic

The Samsung DVD-V6700S (UK version) comes in attractive silver and is quite a wide unit as it supports both DVD playing and video tape recording/playing. The unit height is low, giving a slim appearance, but make sure you have room for the width. A good number of digital/analogue I/O (including on the front panel) allows it to be connected in many combinations to other equipment. Video/sound quality is good, including tape recording/playback. ...
...to see from across the room, though there's not much information on it. Remote control buttons are small with the legends difficult to see if your eyesight is not so good. Operation is straightforward though. The on-screen menus aren't too well arranged but it doesn't take too long to understand them. TV channel setup is automatic and works really well. The NTSC (North American TV) setup didn't correspond with the manual, so I'm not sure how this ... Read review
