Simple to use combined DVD/VCR
Review of Samsung DVD V6700 by gadget_hound

Advantages: Easy to use, quick operation, good quality playback
Disadvantages: Remote control buttons small, front panel display small and basic

The Samsung DVD-V6700S (UK version) comes in attractive silver and is quite a wide unit as it supports both DVD playing and video tape recording/playing. The unit height is low, giving a slim appearance, but make sure you have room for the width. A good number of digital/analogue I/O (including on the front panel) allows it to be connected in many combinations to other equipment. Video/sound quality is good, including tape recording/playback. ...
...to see from across the room, though there's not much information on it. Remote control buttons are small with the legends difficult to see if your eyesight is not so good. Operation is straightforward though. The on-screen menus aren't too well arranged but it doesn't take too long to understand them. TV channel setup is automatic and works really well. The NTSC (North American TV) setup didn't correspond with the manual, so I'm not sure how this ... Read review

Not reliable
Review of Philips DVP3350V by Albinorhino

Advantages: Plethora of features and readable formats
Disadvantages: VCR always broke.

Now before you read this I would like it to be known I sold these refurbished and this review is based on that. I cannot pinpoint my disdain for these and I do not know if the brand new ones had the same problems but I hated these and wanted them all to be burnt in a fire. Yes it has both a vcr and dvd player in one, which really is only good for space saving and having only one remote, I hate integrated systems if part of it breaks you have lost ...
...had a crapload of features, it was progressive scan, it played divX, mpegs, mp3's, Wma's all burnt dvd formats the - and +'s and it had auto and manual tracking for the vcr, it also had a built in rf modulator so if you had a tv that only had coax it would still play the dvd downgrading it to analog. However all 200 units we had had a faulty vcr, it would not track no matter what, it ate tapes and it really did not ever want to release tapes without ... Read review

Good value VHS/DVD video combi
Review of Philips DVP620VR by tcumming

Advantages: Cheap, convenient to have an integrated unit
Disadvantages: Instructions / setup, VCR image quality

This product is a combined DVD player and VHS video recorder. I discovered this product when I was originally shopping for seperate DVD and VHS products. I was surprised by its low price of £80, which even included SCART, RF and audio cables in the box, which many manufacturers do not include. When I got it home, I soon realised there are many other advantages of a combined unit. It has meant much less cabling behind the TV, one less remote control, ...
...to learn how to use. As well as the two "halves" working independently, it also has a dubbing function to make copies of DVD recordings onto VHS tapes, though I presume it would not work with copy-protected DVDs. The DVD part has pretty much all the normal features one would expect in a DVD player of today. Sound output is a choice of Dolby Digital, DTS or downmixed to a normal analogue stereo pair. Unfortunately it does lack a surround sound analogue ... Read review

Panasonic DVD VCR Combi
Review of Panasonic NV VHD1BS by Caza1971

Advantages: Very attractive combi that delivers high quality dvd and vcr that takes up little space.
Disadvantages: None found as yet

...When used in conjunction with Panasonic TVs, the vcr and dvd functions (as well as the TV) can be operated from one remote control making life even easier still. The video has an extra-fast search facility which means that tapes can be rewound in seconds. The manufacturers do mention that tapes recorded on other videos may have some interference but this is something that I haven't experienced as yet. Overall, highly recommended - no complaints ... DVD and VHS in this day and age.
Review of LG DV 1000 by DonKing2000

Advantages: You can play DVD and VHS on one machine , Tape TV while watching DVD
Disadvantages: Big compared to new machines

I have had this for nearly 3 years and It is still going strong. Never had any problems with it. If any one is still looking to get a VHS player I would certainly recommend it. The facility to copy DVD's on to VHS is easy to do. Just one press of a button on the machine or the remote. It also allows you to watch DVD and tape a television program at the same times which can be useful. The DVD playback is not bad not crystal clear if you look at it ...
...to stick with it as I do not see any dramatic picture improvement in any newer standard model DVD players I have seen. Also it is very easy to make into a multi region player as if you put the make and model into any search engine you will find a program you can download and burn to a CD. That when you put it in the machine it gives you the choice to set it to any region. So if you set it to region 0 it will play DVD's from anywhere. The only real ... Read review
