Does Anyone Still Use Video's?
Advantages: Free's Up Lots Of Space Disadvantages: A Bit Bulky
...I have now had the Sony SLV-D 950 for almost two years, I bought it because i did not have a DVD player and wanted to get one, but at the same time i did not want to lose my collection of videos. After searching around numerous stores like Currys e.t.c. i came across this model i didn't really understand what the salesman was telling me, all i understood was that you could play DVD's, watch videos along with recording on videos. So after little deliberation ... ...my needs (simply just playing DVD's and videos without any problems). Anyway they were my reasons for buying this model, here are my views of the advantages and disadvantages of this piece of equipment.
The Advantages:
1. The main advantage with this DVD/Video combi is that it saves alot of room around your T.V. because you do not need to have two different machines (each taking up a fair bit of space) on the shelf(s) beneath your T.V. This could ...

So Speaky HDMI 500GB Multimedia Player is great value for money!
Advantages: Price, usability, design Disadvantages: None I have come across
I bought this product for my dad for Christmas. It was to save me having to burn films for him and save on dvd clutter. Firstly, when i opened the box i was pleasently surprised as even though i thought the multimedia hdd looked good in internet pictures i thought it looked a lot more stylish in 'person'.
After a quick transfer of around 10 avi files (took around 3-4 minutes) from my laptop to the hdd, i connected the player to my dad's tv using ... ...the hdmi cable was not included with the hdmi player).
The plug and play for usb connection is very good, worked straight away, and also the player can easily be found on the hdmi tab of the tv. Only problem i had at first was that my player first appeared split screen, therefore i was seeing two half screens of the same film - this was easily fixed by pressing the video button on the remote.
Picture quality is good and the user interface is easily ...

Watch out, it doesn't say this in any of the other reviews...
Advantages: Small size, nice style/look, low power consumption Disadvantages: No inline mini-tv screen in EPG, oversized, big & clunky remote
I ended up buying this freeview box because Which? and lots of other reviews rated it so highly, and a friend who did tons of research also recommended it, wanting to save myself hours of my own research. On the positive side, apart from the odd 'No signal' moments (which I didn't experience with my previous, very outdated model) it works well, and has an elegant extra feature, namely a dedicated button for separating the radio and tv channels, which ... ...info screens are clearly laid out and easy to read BUT no mini TV picture to preview the channel! Instead there is a darkened 'transparent' full-size background picture to the EPG, but as the panels and writing take up the whole screen apart from the very edge, this is useless for previewing/watching while in the EPG. I was very disappointed and felt cheated when I discovered the lack of this basic feature provided by most freeview boxes, even much ...

EVA 9150-great addition to my living room; not to my bank
Advantages: Massive file range, incredible wireless networking, quiet, looks good Disadvantages: Simply too costly right now - extra features do not justify price
This machine is fantastic - it has even converted the wife who is as Luddite as they come. Its connection speeds with my router are pheomenal, using the n-standard, and I've been able to stream HD video from my router upstairs to this downstairs effortlessly. Misses out Windows Media Centre altogether (good thing!) and simply indexes your shared folders on whatever is your server. For me, I have a 1TB MyBook attached to my router and this works perfectly. ... ...so you can back up your DVDs and keep them scratch free somewhere safe. 500GB hard drive is useful for your favourite stuff - easily managed too. The outputs on the back are extensive - the picture quality through the HDMI even when upscaling is superb. Really can't fault this machine at all except for minor things like the UI is sometimes a bit unresponsive. The only downside is that it is overpriced in my view - better than the rest certainly but ...

Panasonic does it again
Advantages: Range of features, quality Disadvantages: Single tuner
...been very impressed with any Panasonic product I have owned or seen in a home. After a little look around I opted to buy this player as I had heard great things about it and some of the other products in the DIGA Range so I choose the Panasonic DIGA DMR-EX79 and here is my review. The Look When Choosing a new DVD Player I wanted to get one that was as smart looking as the new television I had just bought. One thing about Panasonic products I like ... ...Since DVD recorders were introduced Panasonic have been at the top of the game at every price point so it's not so surprising that this has such a great reputation. Recording This has a massive 250GB Hard Drive and features a Freeview tuner for easy recording onto either the hard drive or onto the DVD. Recording is simple, you can either set it up to record something on a timer or if you find something you like you can just press the record button ...
