Small But Powerful Advantages: Plugs into TV or Hi-Fi, size, portability, ease of use. Disadvantages: Unable to save playlist. This super little unit is a great first time unit for anybody wanting to try moving up to a mediacentre. The menu's are easy to use and uploading media to the unit is a simple as plugging into your pc's usb port and it simply appears as another hard drive. Storage is more than enough for the first time user. Size of the unit is surprisingly small which means it will fit in that gap by the TV or the Hi Fi. Although the small LCD screen is sufficient ... ...hook up to a TV for optimum viewing results. On the downside, the lack of not being able to save playlists is sadly a feature that really would have helped this unit. This means that you have to create a playlist every time instead of being able to 'load one you made earlier' Uploading a DVD file and taking the unit to a TV that has not got a DVD player is a very useful feature. Mediaplayer 35-Kit Advantages: Small, Silent, Mobile, Cheap Disadvantages: Still some bugs Freecom Mediaplayer 35-Kit The basic kit comes without a hard drive, this is great as its much cheaper to buy the hard drive you want and install it yourself, this is child's play and the instructions (if you need them) are easy to follow. EVA 9150-great addition to my living room; not to my bank Advantages: Massive file range, incredible wireless networking, quiet, looks good Disadvantages: Simply too costly right now - extra features do not justify price This machine is fantastic - it has even converted the wife who is as Luddite as they come. Its connection speeds with my router are pheomenal, using the n-standard, and I've been able to stream HD video from my router upstairs to this downstairs effortlessly. Misses out Windows Media Centre altogether (good thing!) and simply indexes your shared folders on whatever is your server. For me, I have a 1TB MyBook attached to my router and this works perfectly. ... ...so you can back up your DVDs and keep them scratch free somewhere safe. 500GB hard drive is useful for your favourite stuff - easily managed too. The outputs on the back are extensive - the picture quality through the HDMI even when upscaling is superb. Really can't fault this machine at all except for minor things like the UI is sometimes a bit unresponsive. Eltax DVR - 555 HD - DVD BREAKS EASILY Advantages: cophy video to dvd via hard drive Disadvantages: dvd player can break down. Should not need to replace whole machine I own A eltax dvr - 555 HD from Hughes some 3 years and half years ago and now the dvd within the machine is not working. Will not play or eject a dvd when you put one in. The hard drive still works and you can view what is saved on there. Bit of pain when I was trying to copy videos onto Dvd via the hard drive. Also the cover has run out on it. If anyone knows of where I could get a replacement dvd for it please help.
