Review of JVC HR XV1 by

Advantages: Robust, easy to use, saves space!
Disadvantages: poor VCR LP picture quality, limited options
This is a review of my parents combined DVD/VCR recorder. I love the fact that this piece of equipment saves space! If you are lacking space, which they were a machine like this will be perfect for you!
The machine looks quite nice I think and feels nice a robust, the controller is of reasonable quality too.
the DVD player in it is fine for the price of the machine. It gives good quality picture with options such as skip/fast forward/audio options/zoom ... ...VCR part however, has good quality picture on SP but records poorly on LP with loss of picture quality and some breaks in the picture. The rewind/fast forward features are nice and quick though!
the machine has two scart connections which is handy for TV and digi box and any other applications you would like.
The machine is simple to use and even my parents, who have no idea about technology, can use it!!
OVerall, if you are on a budget and need ...

Forget It!!
Review of JVC HR DVS3 by
Janbo25
Advantages: Ermmm still thinking!!
Disadvantages: Everything - Main one being only likes playing JVC Tapes!
...was a fault and contacted JVC but was even more dismayed when I was informed that "The JVC HR DVS3 is unable to play sony tapes consistently!!!"
All of the controls have also proven to be very poorly made and also not very well positioned with the firewire port at the front being awkward to get to and use.
I got this in a sale (no wonder!!!) but please avoid it!! ...

Video/DVD All-in-one!
Review of JVC HR XV2EK by
JGreenwood1
Advantages: Convenient/ Reliable/ Good picture quality
Disadvantages: If you need to send it in for repairs you can't play videos or DVDs
I've had this Video/DVD combi for well over a year now and I couldn't be happier! No longer must my room be constantly rearranged to fit in numerous new appliances as this does everything you could possible want it to do!
Firstly - Video features are fairly standard, play, rewind, fast-forward, pause and frame-by-frame watching. Time recording is very useful for when you can't be bothered to stay up late to press record on a film (which I often ... ...several programs in succession. However the greatest feature is the ability to record DVDs onto videos in this one machine, though you will need another VCR if you want to copy videos to videos.
DVD features will equally rival most standard DVD players also allowing slow motion, pause etc and providing you with a stunning picture and sound quality. Make no mistake there have been no sacrifices made to produce this beauty and it doesn't look half ...

Simple to use combined DVD/VCR
Review of Samsung DVD V6700 by
gadget_hound
Advantages: Easy to use, quick operation, good quality playback
Disadvantages: Remote control buttons small, front panel display small and basic
The Samsung DVD-V6700S (UK version) comes in attractive silver and is quite a wide unit as it supports both DVD playing and video tape recording/playing. The unit height is low, giving a slim appearance, but make sure you have room for the width.
A good number of digital/analogue I/O (including on the front panel) allows it to be connected in many combinations to other equipment.
Video/sound quality is good, including tape recording/playback.
... ...to see from across the room, though there's not much information on it.
Remote control buttons are small with the legends difficult to see if your eyesight is not so good. Operation is straightforward though.
The on-screen menus aren't too well arranged but it doesn't take too long to understand them.
TV channel setup is automatic and works really well. The NTSC (North American TV) setup didn't correspond with the manual, so I'm not sure how this ...
