What goes on in The Office?
Review of The Office Series 1 (Wide Screen) by dynamicnurse

Advantages: See text.
Disadvantages: See text.

This review is on the first series of The Office, by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchaant. Or rather, a realistic look at what is currently going on in all office-based companies throughout the country. Cleverly written, it is in fact a comedy based as a documentary that is set in an office. In other words it is not a real life documentary, but rather it is a series that has been based on what potentially could happen in real life. And having worked ...
...I think is one of the main aims of the series. The series is based on a fictional company based in Slough, known as Wernham Hogg. This is a paper manufacturing industry, and although the majority of it is in fact based within the office department/s of the organisation there are in fact a number of pieces that are based within the warehouse department. There are in fact four main characters within the series, who are as follows: David Brent (Ricky ... Read review

Soul Commitment
Review of The Commitments DVD by little_red_hen

Advantages: Excellent soundtrack, and fun film
Disadvantages: No really well known actors,

...they do get weary, Wearing the same old shabby dress, But when she gets weary, try a little tenderness." INTERESTING CHARACTERS: THE COMMITMENTS I remember with fond memories, seeing this 1991 film a good few years back. Bought the soundtrack CD in Woolworth's about 5 years ago. Now after enjoying many hours listening to the tracks, I was really pleased to find the DVD of the film on sale in my local Tesco yesterday for £5.97, and having just ...
...of favourite films. THE FILM: Based on the book by Roddy Doyle, director Alan Parker chose the cast from Dublin's unknown actors, (apart from Colm Meaney). It's a story about the formation of an Irish soul band, highlighting the struggles to find employment, and a better way of life in the poorest of Dublin's fair City. The young singers and musicians get together with the help of Jimmy Rabbitte, who fancy's himself as a bit of an entrepreneur, ... Read review

Will and Viola - a bard's love story
Review of Shakespeare In Love DVD by markd_uk

Advantages: Excellent Cast, Amusing
Disadvantages: Slightly Weak Plot, Slow To Get Going

...that explores the notion that Shakespeare wasn't that great a writer and was, in fact, simply a lusty man ever in search of a muse - or, in other words, a woman to lay that might, if he's lucky, give him some inspiration for a new play. I kind of like his style, actually. Trying to write "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter," Shakespeare - played by Joseph Fiennes - discovers he's suffering from writer's block, a phenomenon known to many of us ...
...appease both her desire for Shakespeare and the stage itself, Viola takes to the boards as a young boy and plays the part of Romeo in Will's new play. Shakespeare himself discovers quickly that this new muse has, indeed, unlocked his writer's block and he starts to write his new play, helped by the input of his financially depressed theatre owner, Hugh Fennyman (played by Tom Wilkinson) and his lead actor, Ned Alleyn, who ultimately suggests a new ... Review of Being John Malkovich DVD by ally2kc

Advantages: Surreal, obscure and laugh out loud funny
Disadvantages: Impossible to follow hungover

...people credit Johnny Knoxville with being the mastermind (debatable) behind MTV's Jackass, it was actually Jonze who was creator and executive producer of the show in 2000. He also acted as producer on both of the Jackass films (Number two to be released this year.) Jonze has tackled interesting and compelling subjects in his documentaries including a day in the life of Al Gore filmed shortly before the 2000 elections. Unfortunately, they were not ...
...by Morning and of course, Being John Malkovich. In 2008 a film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story Where the Wild Things Are will be released directed by Jonze and starring big names such as Michelle Williams, Forest Whitaker, Catherine O'Hara and Benicio Del Toro. ***Being John Malcovich*** ***What is Being John Malkovich all about?*** This is going to be as brief as possible simply because if I explain the whole film in detail, ...
