I am fortunate to have a wonderful husband who can't bear to see his wife suffering the toils of everyday household disasters !
Bearing this is mind, I approached said husband sheepishly with crooked grin on face, (I hope that you are picturing this) and in an off-handed kind of manner, enquired about the likelihood of the purchase of a new washing machine ! Now after the required ritual was performed I expected the usual "What's wrong with the old one ?" where I then go about my "Show and Tell" display. The reply, much to my surprise was " Why don't you have a dishwasher instead " Well !! I must have looked slightly surprised since my husband started to become attentitive and began enquiring as to the state of my health ! After having picked myself up off the floor, I started to realise that although a dishwasher would be great (we have three kids) the washing machine was a tad more vital. I was then torn between looking a gift horse in the mouth and pursuing my original goal - ohhh what to do ?? After a few more gentle words of persuasion I achieved glory, infact I even surpassed it ! We now have a dishwasher
AND a new washing machine !!!
Now after that little bit of background to the standard appliance purchasing ritual, let me get back to the subject of the review. I decided to strike whilst the iron was hot, so to speak, and chaffeured hubby to the local Comet store.
In my town we have a choice of Comet or Curry's as our major electrical retailers and our stores have quite a lot to choose between them.
Whenever, I have the misfortune of entering the Curry's store I am either :
Pounced upon by every sales assistant in the store since I am the ONLY customer or ...
Desperately trying to catch an assistants eye since they appear to have vanished into thin air !
My local Comet store however, is well laid out making things easy to locate. The staff keep a watchful eye and appear when beckoned. They never dog your every move nor do they attempt to patronize you.
Our intended purchases were going to cost over £600 so we obviously wanted to ensure that it would be money well spent. Off we trotted to the washing machine section becoming quickly confused at the vast choice available. Similarly the problem was also apparent along the dishwasher aisle where even more confusion reigned since we had never owned one before. However, just as desperation was starting to creep upon us, a knight in white armour (white goods you know !) appeared and began to educate us. After having ascertained our likes and dislikes as well as necessary requirements, he proceeded down each aisle explaining the pros and cons of each machine. After having been asked to stop him at any time, whether out of boredom or to ask some ground breaking question, we began to absorb quality information. Not only did this man know his machines but he was charming, friendly and had a sense of humour !! What more could you ask for in a sales assistant ?
Feeling that we now knew everything there was to know, we chose our various selections and wandered to the little room that is home to the credit card machine. We had had a private pre-purchasing discussion re: the extended warranty cover thing that they all try to palm off on you, and had catergorically decided to say NO !!
Comet are another one of those stores that have a store card similar to Marks & Sparks. The price of our goods was entered onto our newly acquired store card which arrives within 6 weeks and as long as we pay in full, there is no interest to pay. Extended warranty crunch time then arrived. Our knight decided to advise us against purchasing any additional warranty for the dishwasher since the cost wouldn't really warrant it ! Well that was a breath of fresh air ! The washing machine however, now has 2 years additional cover - I know, I know, I was determined to say NO and I did, but then it kind of became a "Everything you say is true" kind of conversation. We did however, manage to wangle a £30 discount due to applying the "lets smile sweetly and see if we can get some money off" ritual.
Delivery day was arranged for 4 days hence and off we trotted (2 hours later) feeling very pleased with ourselves.
Both products have arrived and luckily fit into the desired spaces in the kitchen. I will eventually write an opinion about each appliance but for now I am getting an unusual amount of pleasure from washing the dishes !!
So, kind sirs, when your other half starts to sidle up to you smiling coquettishly and shifting from foot to foot, be warned - a ritual is fast approaching !

Can't think why you need a dishwasher with three kids in the house 'cos you got three washer uppers to hand.
However I go along with you about Comet because I usually get most of my electrical goods there, except computers.
Your op - worth a VU I think.
Advantages: They have a good collection of products with staff that are ready to attend immediately. Disadvantages: Do not trust the price promise and some staff lack information on the product specification
