Generals: Zero Houradds not just new levels to the hit strategy game, but a whole new game mode too. So let's start with that. The idea is that you go head-to-head against one ofnine enemy generals, each of whom has a tactic they specialise in and some manner of insult to hurl in your direction. Then you need to factor in that you're playing on their ground and that they will have a better position in their territory than you. That established, you get a finite amount of time to get your base built before they start attacking. It's relentless stuff and all the more enjoyable for it. This whole mode justifies the price of the expansion pack alone. But you do get a lot more for your money. There are new single-player missions, a lot more multi-player maps, new weapons to get your paws on and an improved visual style. Also, there's a hardened difficulty level, which does cause frustration in the early stages, but is far from insurmountable.Perhaps it goes without saying that this is a good buy for those who boughtCommand&Conquer: Generals. However, the effort, enhancements and improvements you get make it pretty much unmissable. Let's hope that more expansion packs follow the standard set out here. --Simon Brew

The game is now in 3D graphics and is aesthetically pleasing, but unfortunately looks don’t count for everything. Also you can now play multiplayer games on the internet.
The Command and Conquer series has always been developed by a company called, ‘Westwood’, but now EA games have taken over and there are several similarities that distinguish it has been produced by EA games.
Before I go into game details I will tell you all about the technical details so you know if it suitable for your pc or not.
The minimum systems requirements for the game are:-
(Solo & 2 player multiplayer) 1. Windows 98/ME/2000/XP (Windows 95/NT not supported). 2. 800 MHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor. 3. 128 MB RAM. 4. 8X CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. 5. 1.8 GB free hard disk space plus space for saved games. 6. 32 MB video card (Nvidia Geforce 2, ATI Radeon 7500 AGP video card) with DirectX 8.1 compatible driver. 7. DirectX 8.1 compatible 16-bit sound card. 8. Keyboard. 9. Mouse.
(Solo & 2-8 multiplayer) 1. 1.8 GHz or faster Intel Pentium IV or AMD processor. 2. 256 MB or more of RAM. 3. 8X or faster CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. 4. 1.8 GB free hard disk space plus space for saved games. 5. Nvidia Geforce 3 or more recent Direct 3D capable video card.
(Internet 2-4 players) 1. 56 Kbps or faster internet connection. 2. One full set of game discs per player.
(Internet 5-8 players) 1. Cable, DSL or faster internet connection. 2. One full set of game discs per player.
There are 2 discs for the game. To install the game, insert disc one into your CD-ROM drive and choose the path where you want it to install to and then when prompted insert disc two to finish installation. If you have two CD-ROM drives I strongly recommend using the same one throughout installation.
That is it for the technical details, so let’s get on to the game.
As I mentioned, there are several trademarks which make it obvious it has been produced by EA games. Mainly it appears to have been rushed and the other thing I particularly dislike is the fact it has been bulked out with too many video clips/scenes instead of more game play.
I have always been a fan of the Command and Conquer series and have owned everyone on the Playstation and the pc. I was eagerly awaiting Generals but it was a very disappointing result when I finally got to play it.
So what’s new and what is Command and Conquer Generals all about?
When Command and Conquer Generals loads you will be at the main menu screen. From here you can start a single player game, start a multiplayer game, load a saved game/replay, change your audio, video and network options, see the credits and exit the game.
As in previous Command and Conquer games when you start a single player game you have the choice to start game missions/campaigns or play skirmishes. Skirmishes are single player battles that simulate a multiplayer game by using computer controlled opponents. Differences are already apparent here. There is now the option to play a training game to teach you the C+C basics and you only have the choice to use 3 countries but previously there was a great list of countries you could pick for your army or to battle against. The only countries available to use are the USA, China and the GLA. The GLA is the Global Liberation Army and is a loose federation of freedom fighters and terrorists. They have established strongholds in the republics of central Asia.
I have heard many people say they will not play the game as there is too much action going off and it is too difficult keeping on top of the game, sending units off to battle, building new units and constructing new buildings all in one go. Do not let this put you off. Play the game your self and see. All of the C+C series, including Generals is simply a click and point and scroll game. It is really that simple, click on a unit/construction and point where you want it to go/what you want it to build. Don’t get me wrong it is not boring and effortless. It does require a lot of thought and is very fun.
If you choose to play the missions you start off by picking the country you want to be and what map you wish to fight on. Each country has 7 campaigns to complete. Each must be completed before you can progress to the next campaign. Each campaign has its own set of objectives. There is a great variety of mission objectives ranging from simply guarding a specific building/person/entire base, destroying bridges/enemy targets/complete enemy bases and units, capturing buildings/units/supplies to build your own base into a massive powerful success and completely wiping out all traces of enemy . So basically the game is based on modern day war but you are in charge and you make all of the decisions whether it be right or wrong. After certain tasks/campaigns have successfully been carried out you will be promoted, which will allow better constructions/units/bonuses.
Deciding on which country to pick is entirely up to you. There is no one country better than the other. Each country has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The USA has a command centre, which enables you to build construction dozers, which then enables you to build a barracks and a cold fusion reactor (power plant). These constructions then allow you to build patriot missiles to defend your base, a supply centre so you can collect supplies, which then allows you to construct a war factory (tanks, APC’s etc) and an air field. After you have constructed these you will then have access to construct a strategy centre, which leads to a supply drop zone, a detention camp and most dangerous of all the particle cannon.
China has a command centre, which enables you to build a construction dozer, which then enables you to build a nuclear reactor (power plant) and a barracks. These constructions then allow you to construct gattling cannons and bunkers to defend your base and a supply centre so you can collect supplies. Again this allows the construction of a war factory (tanks etc) and an air field. Next is the propaganda centre, which enables you to construct speaker towers and devastating nuclear missiles.
The GLA again has a command centre, which enables you to use workers to construct a barracks and a supply stash, so you can collect supplies. After you have constructed these you can construct an arms dealer (tanks, trucks etc) and stinger sites and tunnel networks to defend your base. Next you can build demo traps, which is another defence mechanism. Basically it is a barrel packed with explosives. Also you can build a palace, which allows the GLA to develop anthrax and toxin shells. Lastly there is the black market, which allows the GLA to develop ammunition upgrades and then the mighty scud storm, which fires nine scud rockets paced with anthrax and is devastating to the enemy. If you play a skirmish game the idea to it is build your army and base up as quick as possible and track down and completely eradicate all enemy units and buildings. The first country to do this is victorious. This is the same if you play multiplayer games too.
Here are my personal opinions on the game. As I have previously mentioned the 3D graphics are fantastic and really makes the game look the part. The in game sounds are just as good too with the shooting and loud explosions going off. I enjoy playing the game as it is fun and challenging but it is lacking in several areas. One major change from the C+C series is the levels seem to be shorter and fewer and none of the countries have a navy? Quite often the pre-level scene takes longer to watch than the mission actually takes to play. It wouldn’t be so bad if you could skip it and get straight into action but you can’t.
The videos are a good idea but would not be a problem if you could choose to see them or not. The thing that annoys me about them is whilst you are waiting for your mission to load you get told your mission objectives and then when it had loaded you have to listen to it all again whilst you watch the video.
The other downfall to the game was it only took a week to complete compared to the other C+C games. I was expecting much more than what I got.
Overall it is an enjoyable game but a disappointment to what I expected and to what I am used to playing in the C+C series.
Advantages: Excellent Unit Design, Excellent Sound, Fun For A Fair While Disadvantages: Missions Get Reptitive Quickly, Very Little Replay Value
The C&C Franchise is the big name in PC strategy gaming. Anyone who is anyone knows exactly what the C&C name entails - Excellent, rich gameplay, fun missions, and great graphics and sound to boot. Red Alert and Red Alert 2 are 2 of my all time favourite games, especially playing them against mates at a LAN party... ah the time I must have wasted... So anyway, with Generals, and the move to a fully 3D environment, I was expecting more of the great ... ...sound and effects.
Unfotunately, whilst delivering in the shiny department with beautifully crafted units, terrain and scenery, the game seems to be lacking a certain something, that factor that makes you sit up and say "Wow!"
The gameplay is classic C&C, with base building, resource gathering and of course enemy destroying. The problem with Generals is that its, well... boring. Yes, it will entertain for say, a month, it did for me, but you will ...

...the best yet of the command and conquer series. It beats all of its predecessors on game quality, graphics, believability and smoothness of the gameplay. It does, however, lose out to almost all of them on longlevity.
You can choose from two game types, multiplayer (where you can play against both computer and human playes) and the single player campaign. In both these game modes you can choose from one of three teams, each with their own strengths ... ...the Chinese, and the U.S.A.
First Impressions:
My first impressions of this game were excellent. There are lots of long, interesting cut scenes that, if you wish to, you can skip through. Most of the are, however, quite interesting.
Graphics:
The graphic strength of this game is easily its strongest asset. You can zoom in and out on the map without making the images blurred or even slightly pixelly. All of the units are beautifully tailored and ...

Advantages: Improved 3D engine, intuitive controls Disadvantages: Big video card required, too long animated introductions
The latest Command and Conquer offshoot is Generals. The game is now part of the Electronic Arts (EA) stable as Westwood has lost its independence. I first played the original Command and Conquer back in probably 95 or 96 when it was possible to defeat the enemy AI by building sandbags half way round the map. At that point in my life, days tended to disappear and sleep was seriously lost. Over the years and sequels that included Red Alert, Renegade ... ...erected i.e. Radar with the Command Centre or through a new option – Promotion. Promotion is earned through a variety of ways, building a number of units, killing a number of units and so on. These let you have access to things like A10 Thunderbolt strikes, Artillery strikes and so on. The super weapons are predictably destructive but a little unimaginative – a Scud Storm, A Nuclear Missile and a Particle Ray.
On the Normal Level – I have found ...

This is the latest installment of the CnC series. It didn't seem so long a go that i was playing the original game...how time fly's by. I have to say that of all of the CnC series i utlerly enjoyed playing on this one the best.
Unlike the previous games in the series, CnC Generals have adopted a whole new look. By making full use of a brilliant 3d engion and updating the graphics this is an already massive hit. Set in the not to distant future CnC ... ...it be the Americans, china of the Gla (a large group of international terroists) that take your fancy you are sure to be subdued by the addictive nature of this game.
At the start of the game the first few missions are trainers. These prepare you for raging battles against enemy forces which have, in some way, shape, or form disrespected your beliefs. Most of the time in the first few missions you will probablyy be guarding something but the action ...

We aint got no stinkin' FMV?!
After the Bog standard EA Logo, usually C&C players would be able to feast upon some sexy FMV sequences. Shockingly enough, FMV is the one thing which is seriously lacking in this game. Ok, there's a cool enough intro and three endings, but none of these use real actors or much in the way of voice actors, and use footage from filmed in-game cutscenes. There had been a short movie ...

I'll start by mentioning that in my opinion this is
THE BEST MOG (multiplayer online game)
AND RPG (Role playing game)
I have EVER played.
To begin with the game has advanced in leaps and bounds since the original Command and conquer set in the futuristic Tiberium Delta.
The new version/expansion from Command and ConquerGenerals the game is still centred on the choices of teams and then the main attraction fighting. The teams remain as USA, CHINA and GLA
The game is set about 2-3 years after generals where after the GLA (global liberation Army) or Terrorists were supposedly defeated THEY'RE BACK with vengeance. All Teams are bringing with them a whole Arsenal of new weaponry and buildings plus generals abilities (upgrades you can by when you have gained enough points from killing enemies ...
Advantages: Great graphics and unit design. The new challenge mode Disadvantages: Still suffers from slightly poor online connectivty and other issues.

Mutliplayer in Zero hour is as good as Generals, still the same incredible battles and exciting gameplay when playing big online games, but now you might find it lagging a bit less due to optimization.
SYSTEM SPECS:
To run Command and ConquerGenerals:Zero Hour on full you will want at least a Pentium 2.0 ghz or amd equivilent 512 mb Ram and a Geforce ti 4600/fx5700 Ultra or Radeon equivilent. 2 gigs of hard disk space is also helpful.
Overall Zero hour is an excellent expansion to a good game, it turns a good game into a great game, with exciting units, better singleplayer more of the same explosive fun. Its got enough content to secure its place in your pc drive for many months to come especially ...
Advantages: Fantastic gameplay, the best CnC game so far Disadvantages: Some poor balancing, uses the unreliable Gamespy server
This is a different sort of Command and Conquer. But it's still Command and Conquer. No matter what people tell you, "there's no MCV in it" or "omg no Kane!", it's still a Command and Conquer title. This is by far, the best CnC so far in the series. One can't understand why EA then took a step back with Command and Conquer 3.
The new (for CnC) building and training system introduced in Generals helped turn the game into an incredibly strategical game. The lack of a build radius gives you so much freedom to carry out so many different strategies. Many diehard CnC fans will disagree, but only on the grounds of, that this game isn't a true CnC game.
As an expansion pack to Generals, which gives each main faction 3 quite unique subfactions, there are obvious balance problems that will arise. Unfortunately, because EA's community ...

Manufacturer's product description
One of PC strategy gaming's most influential franchises comes scarily up to date, inviting the player to take command of technically advanced armies in a world that's teetering on the brink of war. Command & Conquer: Generals also successfully maintains the hybrid of strategy and battle that have made its ancestors so revered. The game presents three armies in need of command--the US, the Chinese and the Global Liberation. The game is subsequently broken down into 27 single-player missions. To throw in a further twist, you now command a general. As you progress, the general gets promoted and this opens up new technologies and tactics. The most obvious move forward is in the graphics, with the action more close-up and detailed than before. In some ways, it takes a leaf out of the book of the excellent Medieval: Total War, but Generals is a strong game in its own right. Made suitably accessible by a tutorial campaign, it's surprisingly simple to control yet presents numerous options to mull over in every situation. The missions are varied and challenging and the arsenal of weapons--from hardware such as a scud storm through to a simple kamikaze car driver--keeps the brain constantly ticking. Perhaps it doesn't stray too far from the tried and tested formula, choosing to do most of its building on the sturdy foundations set over the years. But there's little denying that this is polished, highly addictive and engrossing entertainment. And if you play it online, it could very easily eat your life away. --Simon Brew The armies that will clash in Command and Conquer: Generals are the super powers of United States and China, and a massive underground organization, the Global Liberation Army, bent on drowning the world in anarchy and terror. Each of the three sides represents a distinct geo-political viewpoint and will fight the war with vastly different tactics and weaponry. To make the experience of modern war as immersive as possible, EA Pacific is using a proprietary state-of-the-art 3D engine, code-named "Sage," which delivers unprecedented detail and interactivity. Because of Sage, Generals' battlefields will include fully modelled urban cityscapes, rugged deserts, vast forests and frozen wastelands. Amazing special effects will allow players to crush cars with hulking tanks, blow out the windows of skyscrapers, or lace the skies with smoke from duelling fighter planes.Generals will include a full single-player campaign along with a full multiplayer component played over a LAN or the Internet.
