INTRO:
I refer to My review of Command and Conquer Generals, there I stated that Generals was a flawed gem, a game capable of being the best strategy game of the year, period. However it was bogged down with technical problems and a somewhat bad single player option.
Now heres where Zero hour comes into it because Zero hour is everything Generals should have been and much, much more.
Firstly theres the much improved interface, there are now superweapon limit options and money options, these add variety to the play, there are also minor additions that you may not notice short term but are a great improvement in the long run.
GRAPHICS:
The graphics in Zero Hour have not much changed from the original, theyre still gorgeous and spectacular, in fact there some improvements, but none that are incredibly significant explosions now seem deeper and bigger and the sound is much improved to promote realism, the games graphics are now also slightly better optimized to support the lower end machines, but as with Generals it is still a system hog and requires a very hefty pc to run it smoothly.
UNIT ADDITIONS AND NEW FEATURES:
The new units are interesting and fun and make excellent additions to the armies, the most noticable of these are the chinese 'Helix' helicopters, a huge chopper basicly like a flying tank. The usa's avenger now help against aircraft, while for the gla the combat motorcycles are perhaps the most interesting unit, able tride over huge mountains and cliffs, creating a never before seen level of uniqueness. All of the units are superbly detailed and look great too.
SINGLEPLAYER AND MULTIPLAYER:
Singleplayer is the biggest improvement is Zero hour,1st off FMV is back, although in the smallest form of news broadcasts, this however gives the missions more storyline, the missions are also better scripted and more fun this time round.
Skirmish is also better as the brutal armies really are brutal now so theres a lot more of a challenge to be had there.
However the biggest new feature is the 'Generals challenge mode', this is a mortal combat style system where 2 Generals will duke it out on a specific area, instead of the original Generals 3 sides we now get 3 generals from each side, effectively making 9 different sides.
Example
China-China tank general-China Nuke generals-China infantry General.
Each General has his special weapons so Infantry generals will have more powerful infantry, while a airforce general will have super planes and stealthed helicopters. This is one of the winning sides to the game, and theyre tough so it should keep you going quite a longf time.
Mutliplayer in Zero hour is as good as Generals, still the same incredible battles and exciting gameplay when playing big online games, but now you might find it lagging a bit less due to optimization.
SYSTEM SPECS:
To run Command and Conquer Generals:Zero Hour on full you will want at least a Pentium 2.0 ghz or amd equivilent 512 mb Ram and a Geforce ti 4600/fx5700 Ultra or Radeon equivilent. 2 gigs of hard disk space is also helpful.
Overall Zero hour is an excellent expansion to a good game, it turns a good game into a great game, with exciting units, better singleplayer more of the same explosive fun. Its got enough content to secure its place in your pc drive for many months to come especially with the glut of mods being developed for it. It's everything generals should have been and more, so et in with the winning side and buy it NOW!

Advantages: Fantastic gameplay, the best CnC game so far Disadvantages: Some poor balancing, uses the unreliable Gamespy server
...is a different sort of Command and Conquer. But it's still Command and Conquer. No matter what people tell you, "there's no MCV in it" or "omg no Kane!", it's still a Command and Conquer title. This is by far, the best CnC so far in the series. One can't understand why EA then took a step back with Command and Conquer 3.
The new (for CnC) building and training system introduced in Generals helped turn the game into an incredibly strategical game. ... ...freedom to carry out so many different strategies. Many diehard CnC fans will disagree, but only on the grounds of, that this game isn't a true CnC game.
As an expansion pack to Generals, which gives each main faction 3 quite unique subfactions, there are obvious balance problems that will arise. Unfortunately, because EA's community support record is rather poor, there are most likely no plans to patch it again. This is a pity, as many of the top ...

Advantages: fun, great online, really good campaigns Disadvantages: gets boring after awhile
Command and conqerors zero hour is the expansion to command and conquerors generals. It has the same basics.
The original:
This is an excellent strategy game with many different tanks and infantry. It takes awhile to get use to what the best ways of deafeting an opponent is. Although it is very satisfying to beat the brutal army. There are medals for things like 3 consecutive wins, 50 tanks built in one battle and 10 aircraft built in one battle
... ...you will start with your command centre and one either peasant or building dozer. You usually use this person to build a supply centre right next to the closest supply centre. Then the centre can collect supplie. Then it gets more fun as you build infantry, tanks and defences. Eventually you should have a massive city with great defence and a lot of men. Then you go and blow the hell out of the other side.
To make full use of this game you should ...

Advantages: Lots to do Disadvantages: Slows down on lower spec machines
...to my expectations of a Command and Conquer game, and my expectations was high. I was running this game on an AMD 1ghz Athlon (also on a 800mhz p3) pc with 512mb Ram and a 64mb nvidia geForce 4 agp Graphics card. I know this is below the specs for the game but I really wanted this game and thats all I have.
So, how did it run?
I think my graphics card took up the slack a lot, and I had to run it on low graphical detail, but it ran fine when in ... ...I noticed some slow down in the cut scenes, but in my opinion thats not what you bought the game for is it?
I love the way you can zoom in to your units to see them close up, but this isnt really practical for playing the game and really is just a gimmick that you may use once or twice when your mates come round. The levels are really well designed with some of my favorite positions for defence, those positions being bottle necks or pinch points ...

Manufacturer's product description
Easily one of the best add-on packs to emerge on the PC in recent memory, Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour adds not just new levels to the hit strategy game, but a whole new game mode too. So let's start with that. The idea is that you go head-to-head against one of nine enemy generals, each of whom has a tactic they specialise in and some manner of insult to hurl in your direction. Then you need to factor in that you're playing on their ground and that they will have a better position in their territory than you. That established, you get a finite amount of time to get your base built before they start attacking. It's relentless stuff and all the more enjoyable for it. This whole mode justifies the price of the expansion pack alone. But you do get a lot more for your money. There are new single-player missions, a lot more multi-player maps, new weapons to get your paws on and an improved visual style. Also, there's a hardened difficulty level, which does cause frustration in the early stages, but is far from insurmountable. Perhaps it goes without saying that this is a good buy for those who bought Command & Conquer: Generals. However, the effort, enhancements and improvements you get make it pretty much unmissable. Let's hope that more expansion packs follow the standard set out here. --Simon Brew With the first expansion pack for Command and Conquer Generals, players can unleash the absolute latest in modern weapons technology against the world's most powerful Generals in Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour. Players will wage a global war to become the ultimate General of modern warfare as they square off against the world's most elite commanders. An all-new Generals Challenge mode will allow players to control any of nine distinctive armies in battle through nine computer-controlled Generals. After defeating the AI Generals, players will have the ability to select conquered armies to play online.Selecting from an arsenal of new high-tech weaponry and a wide variety of new units, players will employ whatever it takes to remove enemy Generals from power. With new weapons, such as the US Specter Gunship or Global Liberation Army (GLA) combat motorcycles, players will have all the firepower they'll need for global domination. Three new campaigns featuring 15 new single-player missions challenge gamers to destroy the US fleet in the Mediterranean, root out a splinter cell in Cairo, infiltrate a US intelligence building, or send in special operatives to capture weapons of mass destruction. The original Command & Conquer Generals game is required in order to play Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour.
