So, the allies were victorious, a new Russian leader was put in to power and everything was running smoothly. But once again the world is thrown in to nuclear war. Command and conquer Red alert 2 is the latest game in the command and conquer series once again there are two campaigns each with 16 rapidly different missions, skirmishes are still there but now include the option to turn “super weapons” off. This can make for better games with out the threat of nuclear annihilation. There is also the multiplayer facility allowing you to connect to Westwood online and fight with any one in the world. The modem game has been removed, I am a little annoyed at this because it was a good feature for two people to play together without having to connect to the internet.
The units are all very imaginative and each have there own characteristics and abilities. A good feature is that allied G.I.s can deploy in to a bunker with sand bags. Another is that prism tanks and prism towers can join together to fire devastating single shots. I could go on for hours about the new units and how they fair on the battle field but I wont. One thing that I personally did not like about RA2 is the new unbelievable units such as airships, dauphins and squids. I would prefer a game based more around infantry and tanks, but I am shore that many people actually do like these new units.
As with previous games of command and conquer the game play is excellent and the game is very enjoyable. RA2s interface is the easiest and quickest to use out of all the strategy games I have played. The game contains lots of nice new features such as formation buttons and the ability for normal infantry to garrison buildings. Garrisoned buildings can be death traps for anything (even tanks) in a city. An experienced commander can use infantry to run rings around his enemy with this feature.
There is not much to say about the graphics, they are soft and comic like and are very attractive. Overall RA2 is a good game, some people I have spoken to have found it far too similar to previous versions but I have thoroly enjoyed it.
