I own every Command and Conquer title that has been released and I have to say that this is definitely the best so far. When I heard of its impending release i was overjoyed and when i finally purchased it I was disappointed! This title diverges away from the old storylines of the Brotherhood Of Nod and turns to the more realistic setting of America vs. Soviet Russia, after the Cold War. The Russians deceive America and attack. You are given the opportunity to play as the aggressors (Russia) or the defenders (America and the Allies), being able to do battle on a huge array of exotic locations. Whichever side you decide to play as once completed you can go and experience the other team and play their missions. As the storyline has changed we are introduced into a completely different arsenal of weaponry on both sides, yet old fan favourites return such as Agent Tanya. For the Allies you are given devastating Prism tanks along with many other destruction creating vehicles and troops. Whereas with the soviets we have mind controlling Yuris turning the allies on each other. There are over 80 buildings and units that allow you to wage war over land, sea and air. Following in its predecessor’s footsteps, it keeps the old theme of having introductory movies before each mission as a briefing. In these scenes we meet many new characters such president Dugan and Premier Romanov and their advisors and generals. I feel that this adds something extra that many strategy games lack, in that it involves the gamer interactively in the game to a much greater extent. The game also comes with great extras such as 'skirmish' mode where you can forget about the missions and just wage war against up to 7 enemies from 9 nations on pre-designed maps. Provided that you have an Internet connection of at least 56.6 kbps you can also play across the Internet through Westwood, who have set up gaming online through www.Westwood.com, which is great option and is very easy to use, but this is for the PC version only!
There are obviously minimum requirements for PC users and these are: Windows 95 or higher 266Mhz Processor (i recommend at least 400 Mhz though) 64 MB RAM 350MB hard drive 4 speed CD Drive 2MB Graphics Directx 7.0a Sound Card (included in software) I paid £28 for this from a reputable computer store, however this was sometime ago and would most likely be cheaper now, it is available from all good game stores.
In conclusion, provided that you have a decent enough computer this game is truly great. It has excellent game-play, great graphics, imaginative settings and units and cool interactive scenes that put Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 head and shoulders above the rest of all other strategy games.
