I have always been fascinated by sign language ever since I was a little girl and I used to watch Vision On on the television. I always promised myself that I would learn how to sign and this year I finally made the effort and started the course.

I am studying year one British Sign Language (BSL) with the intention, hopefully of passing the exam at the end of the year and going on to year two, but we’ll have to wait and see on that one.

At my first class this book was recommended to me as a help to my studies and it has certainly been that!

There is also a complete list of the British two-handed finger spelling alphabet, the deaf-blind alphabet and the American one-handed finger spelling alphabet.

The main body of the book is a comprehensive list of words in common use together with a picture and verbal description showing how each sign is made.

At the end of the book there is a list of useful addresses of various societies for deaf people.

I have found this book really useful as an aid to my studies. Quite often I find myself wanting to sign something and I have learned most of the words but not all. With this book I can look up the one or two missing words and complete my sentence.
