The Compaq Aero is a PDA handheld computer. No, wait...the Compaq Aero is a dictaphone. No, wait...the Compaq Aero is an alarm clock. No, wait...i could go on and on.
The fact is that the Aero is probably a little larger than a Psion PDA and a little heavier, but can you play colour games on a psion? The real question should be, do you want to? Because if you do then the Aero's an obvious choice because of it's colour LCD display and sound abilities. You can also use it for a boring business tool and a good one at that with word & excel supported.
My Aero has 16mb of RAM, and i'm afraid it suffers because of the poor windows CE operating system. Together with no quick exit button from the applications it makes the Aero a bit of a nuisance to use.
But wait...the Aero is a truely marvelous piece of kit for any serious geek who needs to able to to keep track of his life on the move, type the odd letter, and plug in a modem card and attach it to a GM phone and you too could be picking up you mail from the artic or wherever takes your fancy. It also looks very cool and will impress someone (geek or not) instantly over the Psions dull looks. And the Aero's handwriting recognition is ten times better than Psions "learn the Psion way to write" recognition software.
I would have liked to have seen a mobile phone sim add on to turn it into a phone but i'm sure that's on the way.
The Psion will probably win more people over because of it's good stable operating system and price, but if you want to look cool (and let's be honest that's why we all buy the latest mobile phone) then this baby has to be in your shirt pocket available every time anyone even mentions Psion.
Every time i pull my Aero out in front of Psion user they seeth. And then they try to compare the two. "look at my Psions b&w photo cabability" oh yeah? "look my Aero's mpeg video in colour with sound"
And i usually record all they say and play it back to then just to rub it in!
