Well my dad brought home a laptop from work once. It had a Pentium 1 133mhz processor, 256 color display, and was running windows 98. My mum owned it for a while and mainly used it for the internet and a training CD Rom, but I soon aquired it.
I installed Windows NT on it and it worked a treat! With a few modifications Windows NT is like Windows 98 but much faster! It wasnt the fastest on this laptop but it was better than windows 98.
I had managed to play music videos on it but not able to play them in full screen. It was useful for putting on a coffee table and showing pictures which were accessed through the network.
It was good for internet browsing up to a certain poiint, and at one time could even handle MSN 5.0 with webcam!!
When the external monitor was plugged in, it could manage 16bit colour display, which I supppose was quite impressive.
It had MSN 5.0 installed on it, and this worked fine. It also had office 2000 which also worked fine, and was useful for me to write essays on. It was a bit heavy, but it was made in 1997!
By the time we had aquired it from my dads work, the battery had started to loose charge and the screen was a bit faulty.
It was mainly used in my bedroom, until I moved my much more powerful PC into my room, and it meant I no longer had a use for it. As my dad had his laptop downstairs we just didnt bother with it, as by then the screen would just stay blank when loading up.
A few weeks later, I tested a boot disk on it for a friend, at that time it was working perfectly.
As my dad had taken his laptop away with him, I decided I would connect up my laptop in the lounge and use it for the internet.
I placed the card in and started it up, but then I think I got an electric shock from it!
I threw the thingy onto the floor, unplugged it and then cautiously removed the floppy disk and battery. Everyone in the lounge could smell burning.
My dad came back from his holiday, and looked at my laptop. We tried powering it up again, but it just kept on switching itself on and off.
I had the honors of putting old reliable in the bin.
It was a sad night, but old reliable is now in heaven with all the other great computer legends...

(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
At least you didn't try flushing the comp down the lav... I notice a thing about kids these days! Whenever a parent brings something shiny and new home it tends to end up in the kids room!

I hate old computers. I love things to be clean and brand new and HAVE to replace my computer every year. I couldn't handle going back to a 133hmz processor. I had a 120mhz for my first PC and loved it when I went to 800mhz then 1.8ghz now on 2.09ghz... I can't wait till I get my college funding from next month. £20 A week will be great for my new computer parts... Maybe 2.8ghz?
