I might only have 32MB of Ram but for someone like myself who uses it for the odd letter, the updating of a few statistics and mainly surfing the web it seems plenty powerful enough. The only downside is that my CD Rom drive appears to have broken after a few months but it seems like just a loose connection.

The Armada 1700 is the newest member of Compaq's Value Notebook series. It offers processing power comparable to high-end notebooks, but saves cost by omitting some of the expansion capabilities and flashy perks of the flagship models. The 1700 is a good pick for professionals who need a solid, reliable notebook computer with all the standard features needed to maximize your productivity. This version of the 1700 is powered by a 233MHz mobile Pentium II processor. The Pentium II combines advanced 32-bit processing architecture and MMX technology, resulting in a processor that handles business and multimedia applications with incredible speed and smoothness. The processor has 512K of integrated L2 cache, which helps keep it running at peak efficiency. This model sports a 12.1 inch passive matrix display, which isn't what you'd want for a multimedia presentation, but it looks great for your day-to-day personal use. The screen can display 16.7M colors at a maximum resolution of 800 X 600. The 64-bit local bus graphics accelerator has 2MB of video memory to keep images looking crisp, and the high refresh rate will help prevent eye strain over long working hours. The Armada 1700 comes with 32MB of RAM, which is sufficient for today's business applications. If you're going to be running more memory-intensive programs, you also have the option of upgrading the 1700 to as much as 160MB of memory. The 3.2GB SMART hard drive that comes with the notebook should be adequate for your storage needs, and if you require more, you can always plug a second drive into the Armada's MultiBay port. The multimedia features of the Armada 1700 include a fast 24X CD-ROM drive and Compaq's PremierSound integrated 16-bit sound. There are also integrated stereo speakers and a microphone, and jacks for headphone out and mic in. Compaq has designed this value notebook to be an 'all-in-one' solution. The drives and AC adapter are all integrated, so there's no need to tote around too many peripherals. The peripherals you may want to have with you are handled by the MultiBay, which supports a diskette drive, a second hard drive, second battery, SuperDisk LS-120 or a ZIP drive. The notebook can also connect with Compaq's Armada Convenience Base II to give you more desktop-like options such as LAN connection.
