I picked up this laptop for free after someone replaced it with a 5 year old used laptop. For a computer this old, it is an amazing little machine. The screen is as brilliantly lit as most of the best notebooks today, the build makes it feel like it was honed from a solid block of marble, the touchpad is easy to use, the processor could leave a lot to be desired, but even though this is running Windows XP, it's still fast enough to be a great internet and email computer. I upgraded the RAM to 192MB and the hard drive to a massive (for this laptop) 80GB!

Then there's the speakers.

I do not believe I have ever heard a better set of speakers on a notebook computer. Harman Kardon, Altec Lansing, anything that I've seen on a notebook pales in comparison to the beautiful set of horns adorning the front of this little black box. I love this laptop as if I bought it brand new (it is in perfect, immaculate condition) and I don't think this little beauty is going in the bin for quite some time.

Review of Compaq Armada 1750 - PII 366 MHz - 14.1" TFT by Varidhi

Advantages: Sturdy, Easy to use, Value
Disadvantages: Bulky, dated.

I've owned an Armada for three years and I haven't had any problems with it (I've dropped it once). Mine is a P2 366 mhz, with 64 mb ram, and 6 gigs hard-drive, floppy and cd rom drive. It runs on WINDOWS 95 which is getting out-dated now purely because alot of software and especially games are no longer compatible with it. That said, although it has glitches, some of the later versions even more so. The screen is really big, and that has always ...
...are removable and the memory is upgradeabe, the ac adaptor is very sturdy too. It's quite fast for it's genre, although a little cumbersome in comparison to the latest models. It's interface is very user-friendly, and I personally feel very comfortable using it. Mine has a 16 mb video card which came as standard (it's a 1750), and has coped with alot of complicated graphics very well. It has an infrared port in addition to all the other necessary ... Review of Compaq Armada 1750 - PII 366 MHz - 14.1" TFT by andyc

Advantages: Robust
Disadvantages: Chunky

My Compaq Armada 1700 came courtesy of the insurance company after my old Twinhead was stolen. The difference is phenomenal and I thank the thief! I might only have 32MB of Ram but for someone like myself who uses it for the odd letter, the updating of a few statistics and mainly surfing the web it seems plenty powerful enough. The only downside is that my CD Rom drive appears to have broken after a few months but it seems like just a loose connection. ... Read review

Manufacturer's product description

If you need superb mobile processing muscle and great versatility in a notebook computer, but don't care to spend an arm and a leg, then the Compaq Armada 1750 is for you. The 1750 is part of Compaq's Value line of Armada notebooks, and value is definitely what you get: the latest Intel mobile processor technology, superior upgradeability, and full communications and multimedia features. This Armada uses one of the new line of mobile Pentium II processors. The difference between the new mobile Pentium II and the older version is that, whereas the mobile Pentium II used to have 512K of L2 cache memory running at one-half processor clock speed, it now has half the cache (256K) running at full clock speed. Faster cache is better than more cache, and using this design strategy the new mobile Pentium II promises to outperform any notebook processor on the market today. It continues to support MMX-enhanced multimedia software, and has unmatched all-around strength in business and gaming applications. Notebook's huge hard drive offers plenty of storage space for most uses, and for additional storage capacity, you can add a second hard drive to the Armada's Multi-Bay. Dinky graphics in your notebook are a thing of the past. The Armada 1750 features a nice big color screen, and an AGP graphics controller. Compaq PremierSound 16-bit audio produces SoundBlaster compatible output through the notebook's acoustic bass reflex stereo speakers with a 2 watt/channel amplifier and 4 stage EQ. An optional internal CD-ROM drive, integrated mic, and standard audio jacks round out the multimedia features of the Armada 1750. The Armada's Multi-Bay makes this a very versatile notebook. The Multi-Bay accommodates the standard floppy drive, as well as an optional second hard drive, battery, DVD-ROM drive, LS-120 drive, or Zip drive. Accessorize your Armada with any of these extra devices that you may need for the task at hand. While you're on the road, stay in touch with the optional integrated 56K V.90 fax/modem, allowing you to send and receive email and faxes, or go online for research or entertainment. Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95/98 comes installed on this Armada, along with Insight Management Agents, Intelligent Manageability, Security 32, Diagnostics for Windows 95, Compaq Power Management, Online Safety and Comfort Guide, Reference Guide, and Carbon Copy.
