The reason they said they got it for me was because I could do my homework on it as well as The Sims. (I got The Sims triple deluxe!) And if I had The Sims on the PC downstairs no-one would get a go, which is probably true!

For Christmas this year I was expecting a PS2 as I wanted to have The Sims and my parents wouldn’t let me have it on the PC downstairs. So Christmas morning I got up at 4:30 and when I opened the Compaq Armada M300 I was absolutely flabbergasted!! The reason they said they got it for me was because I could do my homework on it as well as The Sims. (I got The Sims triple deluxe!) And if I had The Sims on the PC downstairs no-one would get a go, which is probably true!
~~~THE LOOKS~~~
This is a very small black laptop with a touch pad mouse, which I found very difficult to use to start off with, a greyish tinted keyboard with an 800x600 TFT active matrix screen. When it hasn’t got the mobile expansion unit (MEU) attached it’s a very ultra thin! Less than 1inch! There are 2 on/off buttons one by the screen inside the laptop and one on the right hand side on the outside.
~~~PRICE~~~
My parents brought this second hand off of E-Bay at £145 plus £18 postage but the only problem was it didn’t come with an external drive! My parents went searching everywhere for a CD or DVD drives but had no success so they brought one from Compaq. A MEU with a CD drive was £95 but luckily for me they sent the DVD one instead!! He he he! When the MEU is attached to the laptop it doubles the thickness to just under 2 inches.
~~~TECHIE STUFF~~~
PROCESSOR Pentium PIII 600 MHz
DISPLAY TFT Active Matrix 11.3 inches
HARD DRIVE 12 GB IDE standard
MEMORY 256 MB RAM
VIDEO MEMORY 4 MB ATI Rage LT Pro card
FLOPPY DRIVE None supplied (DVD Drive supplied with Mobile Expansion Unit)
DIMENSIONS 26.5 x 22.5 x 2.2 CM (adding the MEU Increase the height to 4.4 CM)
WEIGHT 1.4 KG (3LB) or 2.5 KG (5.5 LB) with MEU
~~~HOMEWORK~~~ Now this is the boring part of it!! I use Officeorg which is similar to Microsoft office with text document, spreadsheet, drawing, slideshow presentations and business cards! (Don’t ask why!!) Because I don’t have the internet I have to use encyclopaedias for my research so I have 2 encyclopaedia software packages on it!! The concise Encyclopaedia Britannica and Microsoft Encarta. I think they are both good programmes but Encarta has more information and multimedia.
~~~EXTRAS~~~ This also has a network card and modem for connection to the internet or a Home network and also has one USB port and one PCMIA slot and hopefully after a bit of persuading I will get the internet!! So I can go on ciao without being moaned at!
Advantages: Light weight tiny Laptop Disadvantages: As it 2 or 3 years old a bit slow
We bought the Compaq Armada M300 as a Christmas present for our 13 year old daughter, mainly for 2 reasons, to run Microsoft Encarta to enable her to do her HOMEWORK! And to run the Sims, she’d been asking for this for about 2 years and we were loathed to load it on the family’s computer for fear that nobody else would get a look in!
The Computer, we found on E-Bay for £145 plus £18 postage, we were not particularly looking for a Compaq, but rather ... ...being PII 300).
The Compaq far surpassed that! And so we went ahead and made the purchase via Paypal on Sunday night and much to our delight it arrive at 7.30am on Tuesday morning.
The only problem, now was that the standard Compaq Armada comes without any external Drives and so we set about finding a CD Drive, we looked at USB Drives from such places as Currys etc. but these looked bulky, Ugly and you need a floppy drive to load the Software drivers! ...
Advantages: Compact, fast, great screen Disadvantages: No FDD, short battery life
MHz processor, which is faster than my desktop PC, and has the same amount of RAM (128Mb). This makes the laptop speedy fast, although some of you with spangly new computers may think I'm barking for thinking this is fast!
There is an on-board sound card, which is loud and acceptable for playing CDs. The graphics for those interested is via an 4Mb ATI Rage LT Pro, which may or may not be a good thing (too technical for me!) but does it's job very nicely.
There is also a network card and 56K modem on board, and if you want to go wireless, there's the empty expansion slot I mentioned previously, so that covers all communications.
On top of all that, there's the opportunity to plug an external monitor in, 2 USB ports (1 on the expansion unit) and the usual variety of ports and plugs you would expect. There's also an infrared device ...
