Working in technical support for a major healthcare company, I get to see a lot of Armada M700s. Compaq have admitted that faulty batches were sent out but this machine seems to be very unstable. It looks very smart with its black case (has a PIII 650MHz processor and 64MB RAM), blue mouse pointer in the middle of the keyboard and the newer ones coming with a DVD/CD drive (but you must have Win98 to use DVDs). As this is a notebook, the floppy drive and CD drive are interchangeable. If you want to use them both at the same time a parallel cable is provided so you can run the floppy drive from the printer port. The screen is quite large for a notebook and the display is clear. Sound output is good and it comes with an internal 56K modem and ethernet network card which frees up your PC card slots for other things. Overall, a nice looking machine but I would look elsewhere until Compaq have sorted out all the issues with the motherboards that have been leading to so many problems. If you do decide to get one of these, make sure you have a good warranty as motherboards don't come cheap.
Advantages: inbuilt modem, networking, usb, infrared support, light, fast Disadvantages: no touchpad on this model, down arrow key, typing comfort
...if you travel a lot is that this is a very light machine. Overall I do reccomend it and it has raised my opinion of Compaq quite considerably, It comes with a good support contract (which I hope I won't need) and has so far (3 weeks) been problem free ...

Advantages: nice size, quite rigid, screen is very clear Disadvantages: speed regularly fluctuates between 450Mhz - 700Mhz, system hangs on standby
I purchased this laptop for £150 in july last year and since I purchased it, the processor speed has fluctuated between 450Mhz and 700Mhz. the speed does not drop enough to cause a major problem but it can still be annoying.
the memory is quite a good amount for simple word processing tasks but if you regularly have a lot of applications open then you might notice a significant drop in performance.
the battery life is incredible and many times ... ...who also has a laptop, has had to recharge his laptop twice in the amount of time this laptop can last on one charge.
I only have one major problem with it and that is that the keyboard keys G,H,Right Arrow, Down Arrow and backspace stop working, but this can normally be solved by reseating the keyboard connector.
when I purchased this laptop it had windows XP pre-installed and I used it with windows for a while then I formatted it and put linux ...

Advantages: great display, wonderful drives, love the multibay!!,dvd, cdrw, floppy drive, compatible with windows xp. wonderful speed Disadvantages: cooling system not that great, power inlet weak, a bit outdated
...am an owner of a compaq armada m700. This computer his a great notebook, that is powerful and sleek. and the battery is quite good . my experiences with this laptop have been very good, i have flash and sonic foundry acid on there and it works great. not to mention the good hard drive. the only bad things about the laptop is that the system file is fat32. Another bad thing about this great comuter is the small harddrive, and the bad power connection. ... ...another wonderful feature of the compaq armada m700 is its powerful display. clear screen is wonderful. another great thing is the price. its conveniently priced at around 600 dollars which is pretty good for a notebook with all these features.
on a scale of 1-10 i would have to rate it a 9
which beats the sony vaios 7
and the only reason i rated it that low is because the battery lasts like 15 minutes
anyway im getting off the subject so i better ...

Advantages: Fast, Quiet and Reliable. Also fairly cheap! Disadvantages: None
...With the 10GB hard disk in my CompaqArmadaM700 laptop growing older and probably less reliable, I decided it was time for an upgrade.
After some hunting around, I settled on the Toshiba MK8032GAX. I chose this disk for 3 reasons: Toshiba branding (I am a Toshiba fan), a large 8MB cache, and a competitive price scheme. I paid a lot more than you would now (I obtained the disk 3 months ago)
The disk didn't dissapoint - I timed a Windows XP install at 25 minutes and 39 seconds, compared to the 42 minutes and 17 seconds with the original 10GB disk.
The disk has never shown any reliability issues, and all SMART health checks report 100%.
Installation wise, the Toshiba is simple to set up. In most laptops you won't have to change any settings - Most laptops run the main hard disk as a primary master.

Advantages: Fast, Large Screen, Great keyboard, 4Hour battery life Disadvantages: Looks dated, screen casing a bit flimsy, small HDD and Memory
...very effective, and managed to keep a signal throughout my house - a feat my old CompaqArmadaM700 with a PCMCIA WLAN card could never achieve!
All in all, this is an excellent notebook at an even better price. If it does what you need.... BUY ONE NOW!

Advantages: Cheap, good speakers and ATI graphics chipset, Runs cool Disadvantages: Only runs cool because of HUGE fans so noisy, Graphics are actually awful, Bad keyboard
...Most people looking for a laptop will have an idea that the speed of a machine in MHz or GHz will have a direct impact on performance. True, but if you take this to the extreme like a lot of people and base your buying choice on ourely speed, you may fall into the V7010s trap.
The Celeron D CPU in this laptop runs at a smooth 2.53GHz, which will certainly appeal to a lot of people on paper. But be in for a surprise when you power the machine on for the first time....
To me the Fujitsu felt slower than my CompaqArmadaM700 running at 1GHz with only 128MB of RAM, although both of them ran XP Home Edition.
The speed is only the first shortcoming of the V7010, as you will find out shortly.
Everything looks bright and rosy on paper - 40GB 'Fast' IDE Hard Disk, ATI IGP 9000 Graphics, Celeron D 2.53GHz CPU... but when you try...
