Evo N600c has been my friend for the past one year and three months. I use it everyday as I work from home. I use it while travelling on train to my work place once in a while. It is lightweight and ideal for travel. It has good battery life. I have not personally faced any problems with this laptop except the fact that it generates a lot of heat.
It cost me £400 to get this laptop, which we got from a friend. It weighs 2.5 kgs and it has a width of 31 cm and 25 cm height. It is available in Black color. (Since I am used to a black Laptop, my next choice would be silver). It is quite elegant.
Basically being a web developer, I have to run a lot of softwares (dreamweaver, sql server, ) and I find it quite fast to use my system while using all these are running simultaneously. Rarely I get the Windows virtual memory problem when I run many software simultaneously.
My laptop Specifications: Processor - Intel Pentium III-M 1 GHz Cache Memory - 512 KB RAM - 256 MB RAM HARD DRIVE - 20GB Had inbuilt sound card, speakers, slot for microphone etc. Input device - keyboard, touchpad OS - Microsoft Windows XP Professional
But the main disadvantage would be no CD/DVD writer and also I think there is no slot for firewire access. You have to connect via PCMA slot for your firewire. No built in wireless support. You have to purchase wireless card. No floppy disk drive. So you have to purchase an external floppy drive. It has two USB ports. It is ideal for heavy usage. It generates lot of heat after using it for more than 2 or three hours.
Now a days when 120 GB hard disks are available, 20 GB space is easily used up. I have stored some of my digital photographs from my recent trip and they take up most of the space. Without a CD/DVD writer this will be a problem.
I am quite used to this laptop, as I know typing. But my husband finds it hard to use the laptop for typing for a long time as he finds the cursor moving away from where he is typing and ends up getting frustrated.
I tried using TV as output, but I could get only black and white output. Maybe something to do with the settings(I am not sure).
Because of the hard disk capacity of 20 GB, to write our digital images we need a CD/DVD writer so that we can free up some space.
So the alternatives to harddrive space are either buy a laptop with higher storage or a laptop with CD/DVD writer. As the technology is improving very fast, softwares will need more space and newer features like inbuilt firewire support(especially for copying content from camcorder to laptop to write them to a cd/dvd write firewire will be ideal).
Sound card is good. I sometimes use my laptop just for hearing music from the internet.
It has two built in USB Slots, one I use for connecting my webcam and then I use USB to connect my camcorder or digital camera.
It is ideal for first time laptop users who want minimum functionality for a less price. Easy to use interface. It is stylish to look and easy to carry while travelling. It also has a good battery life. I can run my laptop for 2-3 hours on battery that is ideal if you are planning to travel to work and want to use it on the train.
