The compaq Evo N610c is now an aging machine but still manages to handle the everyday tasks of a home-user or light business user. Compaq have developed a solid base system in this laptop which has multiple configuration options so that it can adapt to the needs of most users. Intel\'s P4 Mobile processors are utilised throughout this series and produces a longer battery life by only running at the speed needed to run the active programs.
Options include: Bluetooth module, CD Rom, DVD Rom, CD/DVD Rom, Expandable RAM upto 1Gb (PC2700) and docking station. On top of the configurable base system there are many external sockets to enable further peripherals and upgrades to be added. (2x USB Sockets, 2x PCMCIA Slots, VGA Out, Parallel Socket, Com Port, TV out socket, Ps/2 Socket, Headphones and Mic Socket). The optional docking station enables even further expansion by adding further sockets still.
The screens used on the N610 range are top quality units and produce clear and very well defined images. Lower specification machines usually came with the XGA 14.1\" screen but some even had the Ultra high resolution UXGA 14.1\" Screen which gives even greater detail and sharpness.
When this model was launched it was a common sight within many organisations due to it\'s robustness and it\'s multiple options. The fact that the business community used this machine widely means that spares and options are commonly stocked by support companies so if anything does ever go wrong or need upgrading you can be sure to find the parts you need readily available.
On a downside the heat that this unit produces is expelled out of the bottom of the unit and if you use it whilst resting it on your lap you will find the heat unbearable. The main part of this machine that shows it\'s age is the square, straight lined design and the lack of a WIFI adapter to link to modern wireless networks. If you need to use this machine on a wireless network you will have to use either one of the PCMCIA slots or a USB adapter, both of which are widely available throughout the market.
