The Compaq Evo Thin Client T30 is a thin client that connects over a network to a server running with or without Citrix MetaFrame software. This combination of client and server solution is referred to as Thin Client Server Computing. The thin client is but one part of that overall solution. A thin client only processes keyboard and mouse input and screen output, leaving all application processing and storage to the servers. Unlike a traditional PC with high-speed processors and data storage, these terminals are optimized to act solely as "windows" to the server where users' applications and data reside. Instead of applications running on individual PCs, all applications are run from a single server or group of servers, greatly simplifying the administration and support needed to run an IT department. While some knowledge workers truly need the processing power of a PC (such as engineers, designers, or financial traders), most workers perform task-oriented, transactional functions in environments, which would be ideal for the Compaq Evo Thin Client T30.

...What is it?
A “thinclient” is a device that enables all applications to be run from a single server instead of the applications been run from the individual persons computer. CompaqevothinclientT20 otherwise known as the “thinclient” for people in the trade. Compaqevo is a Microsoft based terminal, which means it has the ability to connect over a network to an operating system (server) which has a citrix metaframe software operating.
Thinclient enables the server to control all applications, processing and storage. This means all applications are run from a single server, thus the thinclient is used to process keyboard input and screen output, and hence is where the users applications and folders stay.

...I've just upgraded 4 machines at work, to the HPthinclient, for improved connectivity, and also for space issues.
The PC's themselves are a doddle to fix up, taking possibly a max of 15-20mins from start to finish.
The thinclient has a nice built in speaker and an abundance of USB ports, which should satisfy most users (6 ports in all, 2 front, 4 back)
Bootup speed on these machines is good too, from powering on, i would estimate that it takes 20 seconds to reach the network logon screen on our machines, which is a lot faster than our old machines, which would usually take between 11/2 - 2 1/2 mins, then go through a dual login (login to the pc itself, then login to the remote desktop connection) whereas the thinclient is set to autoload the login for the remote desktop connection.
The downside to these machines, which we did...

...The CompaqEvo D300v is a future proof PC for any bigginer or an ideal gift for a relative seeking his/her first/second PC.
Its quite fast and is able to perform many tasks in a respectable amount of time. The 20GB Hard Disk isn't big but it's plenty of space if you just need a PC for general use, e.g. surfing the net and writing letters.
It's not a paritcaully powerfull PC and only comes with basic sound and graphics capabilities, but this is fine for most people.
This, like most PCs nowadays is Internet ready and it shouldn't take you too long to get that going.
One of the big advantages is, its compact, if you don't wan't it to dominate your desk then I surpose it's the PC for you!
As a Compaq PC you can expect high build qaulity and a PC that will last you, but you can often find better bargians with other companies....

No one really gave this camera by Sony a chance before the T9 came out but it is actually a pretty good camera. Great small slim size (slimmer than the T9) and good picture quality. The camera is easy to use thanks to the manual as the camera isnt... more
