I have just invested in a new pc for myself at home.
It is 20 times more pwerfull then the one i first bought in 1998, and will probably be only half as good as the next generation or step up the technolgy ladder in 6 months time.
The pc I bought has an 17" screen didnt want bigger as it wouldnt fit on my desk.
The presario is a mini tower, which I think is quite small from what I am used to.
It has an AMD K6-2 @ 400mhz processor which I am told is better then an intel pentium 4.
The hard drive is 80giga bytes ( I wish now i'd got bigger).
This i believe may be just a bit to small for making my pc last a while i may need to upgrade in the near future.
I got nvida graphics software and dvd utilities and windows office 2000 to supplement my needs.
It has 64meg of ram expandable to 384meg (why you would need to I'm not sure.
The pc also has great sound and graphics cards I now use my pc to watch dvds and listen to music in beter quality then my HIFI and dvd players or so it seems.
My main use for this pc is report writing for work which i need a reliable computer for with options for backing up my work.
I also store holiday photos and mainly work files on this pc and search on the net for information regarding work and pleasure.
The pc is fast but i believe I could have found a better pc but not at the price i paid for this £642 which is all i wanted to spend.
It wworks for me and I like it but I should have got a dvd/cd writer a bigger hard drive at least.
It is a good pc but in this day and age a bit poor in standard and kit, I can upgrade in many areas such as graphics and sound cards hard drives and adding cd writer drives but it bumps up the cost and risks involved with upgrades.
I wouldnt realy recommend this pc as it doesnt have all the mod cons, you can get it with xp as i did the one here says windows 98 but that has been surpassed by windows xp.
In all a good pc for a year ago but a bit out classed now yet a good purchase price initially, we must wait and see if the costs spirral if i come to upgrade.
I'm not sure about this pc it works well and is great fun but it has restrictions such as not having cd or dvd burner or more usb ports lfor webcamsprinters and scanners.
Matched against a new pc with all the tools for home enjoyment it is quit poorly kitted out.
It will do me for now but i see this investment inst as long term as I had hoped.
Yet I think if you had the inclination you could make this a great home entertaiment pc, unlike my main use is report writing hence the need for office and photo storage.
It isnt actually used for games as such the nearest it gets to that is music cds and dvds.
So in all a good pc just showing its age in price and supplied tools and kit.
I wouldnt recommend this pc for the reason if you spent a little more you get the best there is maybee twice as much but it would be worth it unfortunitly I didnt and am stuck with this machine for now.
