Compaq SCSI external cable

Advantages: Ease of installation and use, reasonable price
Disadvantages: IDE connection is lower than SCSI

...I had been umming and aahing about buying a CD-RW for some time and I finally settled on the HP 9150i, mainly because of the very reasonable price, but also because it seemed a lot easier to fit and install than a SCSI model. HP really couldn't have made it easier. They provide a CD which not only plays you a video to follow, but also checks your computer to tell you what jumper settings and IDE cable to use for the best results. Whilst looking into different CD-RWs, I was told time and time again that the software for copying CDs was as important as the hardware itself. The HP 9150i's software is very intuitive to use with excellent results when both copying a whole CD and making a compilation fom many CDs. There is a update which is downloadable from the web (5MB, so do it at the weekend!) which adds a few more features... Read review

...would go far a Hewlett Packard Drive. Now this is another important decision, external drives require some kind of connection to the back of your PC. Now the 2 most common are, USB and SCSI. USB, (Universal Serial Bus) is new fairly new technology for connecting multiple devices to your PC, The theory is, that you plug in the device (can be anything from a keyboard, mouse to speakers, printers and even CD Writers!), and then your computer will set it up for, you, asking for any supplied disks, and then your ready to go, without restarting your PC. USB limits a speed of about 600 kb/sec. If you don’t understand, it basically means, that the fastest time you could write your CD is around 20 minutes, for a whole disk. Advantages: Reliability is great
Disadvantages: price is too much, old, not very flexible

...Nowadays on all computers you will see many USB ports but some of the HP printers still use the old parallel cable and this is not good. I don't like the HP printer cable because I think that it is too heavy and is hard to move around because it is so thick. But the good thing about the cable is that it lasts a very long time as mine has lasted ages and reliability is great. The price I think is too much for this wire and I am not happy why they have put the price too high because this wire is very old. I first started using this wire with my old HP printer which I purchased nearly six years ago. The wire lasted very long but I was disappointed with HP as over the years they had not made a single improvement to the wire.
