Probably not everyone’s first choice when purchasing a new computer, but as you will see if you read on Compaq computers are surprisingly good. The only draw back I feel is that they are a tad on the expensive side.
** My Experience ** Over the last year the company that I work at has gradually started to buy Compaq computers. At first I wasn't sure about them as for as long as I have worked there they have always bought Dell computers and I was quite happy with these. When we go the first Compaq I thought they looked a bit strange as I was used to the look of Dell computers.
My first impression was that they looked quite fidley to service and were a lot heavier than the Dell computers, which we had. But over the year that we have had them I have found them to be very easy to work with. The design of the cases has improved a lot and the insides of the PC I feel are very easy to get at, which is a bonus. The cases are also very easy to open unlike some computers, there are just two buttons on the side of the computer, a desktop version, and you pull back and hey presto the case is open. Once you can the case off the PCI slots were easily accessible and the hard drive and floppy drive were mounted on a frame which could be lifted out. Extra drives such as CD-ROM drives were also very easy to install, all they required were four screws attached to them on the side and they would slide and lock into place. All of the hardware inside the computer is very easy to get at, which is very good because the last thing you want to be doing is struggling to get at something when servicing a computer.
When you come to reinstall the computer this is also made very easy. With each computer you get a restore CD, this you put in the CD-ROM Drive and the computer will boot off the CD. All you need then is either Windows 9x or NT. All of the drivers for the computer are installed automatically and you don’t have to do anything, appart from fill in a few details about the owner etc… This is a break to scrambling around looking for the individual driver disks, which we lost a lot of the time.
You have to be careful though to keep the restore CD if you have a Compaq Laptop as the CD you get with it is the only one that will restore your laptop. To get this fixed without it is then a very long drawn-out experience with a lot of time spent on the phone convincing Compaq that we did own that particular Laptop. Eventually we got a new restore CD sent out to us.
** My Thoughts ** Generally it is my view that I wouldn't buy a brand computer for home, as I don't have a problem fixing it myself. But if you want some comfort from the fact that your PC has a good warranty these computers are good, if a little pricey. But then the extra that you pay in the price goes into testing the computers, so generally you should get fewer problems with them.
Advantages: Show product details Disadvantages: Hard to navigate or find what you may need, and the prices of products
Compaq is a great machine to purchase and they have great products to offer but thier website is not a easy one to navigate. It's hard to find any sort of upgrade information. If you are looking for certain drivers for your products it's hard to find them. If they have them at all. The worst part about buying direct from compaq is the price. I have found that thier products are generally less through a store or other site. I wouldn't recommend using ...
This is a very good computer company. The companies computers, are very good value, they are very good quality, but best of all the customer service is absolutely excellent. They are very good, if anything ever goes wrong with your computer you just ring up, a toll free number and they will sort out your problems.
The people at customer services are alos very polite and friendly to you, even if you have done something completely stupid to your computer. ...

Advantages: Good screen. Fairly quick machine Disadvantages: Costly tech support if you need to be on the phone sometime
...months ago I bought a compaq preserio 1200 XL103 notebook. I had been looking for a laptop for about a month. I have been particularly pleased with the performance of my machine (475 mhz k6-2
6Gb and TFT screen) Unfortunately after about 2 weeks I crashed the machine and was not able to get it going. I telephoned the tech support and found them to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They had me up and running fairly quickly. The only moan I ...
Advantages: Has everything at reasonable prices. Disadvantages: Not as well known as it should be.
Compaq is a very good place to buy all of your computer software and hardware.I frequently visit because I have never visited and found that they do not have what I am searching for but if they ever did I know they would have it in just a couple of days. This place is good for people of any age because it has everything from computer games to hard drives. There are plenty of Compaq retailers around so where ever you live you shouldn't have to travel ...

...be about the workings of compaq computers but how I've found buying it, using it and customer service.
BUYING MY COMPAQ COMPUTER:
I bought my PC from PC World and bought the model Presario 6000, with an ordinary screen (not a flat screen). This cost me about £1000. I have been told by my husband who knows a little more about computers than me that for the money you get a lot of memory etc. It is really nice and modern looking- silver and black.
... ...is please don't buy a compaq as I've had nothing but problems and am now waiting for it to break again. :-(
UPDATE - I've had my computer nearly a year now and I haven't had any more problems ( * Fingers Crossed*). My friend that I mentioned earlier, with the e-machines computer, has had no problems, so when I have to update my computer in a few years time I think I'll get an e-machines computer. They may not look as modern, but they are faster ...

Advantages: Competitivie price and 9 months interest free credit Disadvantages: Difficult to get help from the staff at busy times
I wanted a new PC at a competitive price and also wanted to pay on the basis of interest free credit. After shopping around I eventually concluded that Tempo would be the best option. For £575 I got a Compaq Presario base unit on 9 months interest free credit (if you think I’ve been ripped off – don’t tell me!).
On price and payment method alone I am more than happy with what I got and have no hesitation in recommending Tempo.
In terms of the service I received I also cannot fault Tempo but would recommend that you choose your time of visit carefully. Because I work flexible hours I am in the fortunate position of being able to shop mid-week and mid-afternoon. This is a good time to visit because the sales staff are less likely to be busy.
Before buying, I visited Tempo on three occasions and was ...
