...restraining arm.
Size. Very large! It needs great depth in the rack and is best suited for HP cabinets. Shallow depth racks will not give you the clearance to close the doors on it.
Software that comes with it is really limited to the Array software and principal set up software. This allows you to set up the hard disks into the RAID format you want should you so desire. Its quick and simple to set the disks exactly as you want them before installing the operating system.
Uses? Well we use ours for running Virtualised servers. That means we can have lots of software servers running on 1 actual piece of hardware. To do this you need something with plenty of resources, processor power, disk space and memory. The G5 copes admirably with 5 servers running on it. Advantages: Reliable, efficient data storage. Good compatibility Disadvantages: Noisy, capacity not the greatest, speed.

Im going to tell you all about my reliable workhorses I have here at work. The HP DLT VS80 tape drives...

Advantages: Up and running in under a minute Disadvantages: Not the fastest, (but then what do you expect)
...That's the manufacturers claim for this industry first product and it's true. Just plug in the drive to an available USB port, install the drivers and software and your away, it could not be easier.
The HP family of DAT (DDS) drives is now in to it's 5th generation, and the reliability and performance has grown with each new model.
The big disadvantage of the previous offerings was the need to invest in costly SCSI cards and cables, but this fabulous product very cleverly brings an industry standard product in to the reach of the serious home user and small business user.
If you have ever suffered a system crash and lost critical or valuable data, you will know the heart sinking feeling of realising you've lost everything, and that sense of "Why didn't I back it up?"...... Well no more excuses, not only does this drive provide...
