Right well for a start this is a cracking TFT monitor, I have the joy of using this little beauty at work every day so thought I may as well review it! This is my first experience with TFT monitors and I must say I am impressed.

This monitor appears to have a wealth of onscreen controls that are easily understandable as well as navigate. After pressing the diamond symbol once, you have the option to scroll through and select your Horizontal Position, Vertical Position, Auto Setup, Clock, Phase, Colour, Contrast, Brightness, OSD Display, Mode Recall, Backlight info, Serial Number!, Mode Info, Language and finally exit! I like the addition of being able to view the serial number on screen; if only my 19” CRT at home could have this feature!! Having to turn round my CRT to get my serial number for customer support is a right pain. However turning round this 3kg compaq TFT is no trouble at all so the on screen serial display just serves to mock the inadequacies of my CRT.

The colour is beautifully clear and crisp, but only at the one resolution of 1024 x 768. At 800 x 600, this monitor does not perform very well and the picture is noticeably fuzzy. This goes for all TFT monitors though, in that they only have one optimal resolution they work at; which is my major gripe with them. Seeing as I like to operate my CRT at 1024 x 768 despite being a 19” just because I like everything bigger and less of a strain on the eyes, I like the CRT’s flexibility to accommodate this. But to be honest this TFT is so easy on the eye that multiple resolutions aren’t required. And after a day in the office looking at this TFT most of the day, and then coming home to my CRT, I can really tell the difference on how much less strain on the eye it is, despite owning a very respectable CTX CRT.

All in all I’ve been very impressed with this monitor, and although not being able to comment on the value for money aspect, looking at the latest list prices, Id happily pay in that region for a monitor of this quality.

i have 2 TFTs at home. at first i thought they would be a waste of money- seeing as even a 15 inch one is 3x the cost of a CRT moniter. but then, i saw how much better they look, and now i would never consider a CRT. they take up much less space, and like you say, are better for your eyes. x

Good review, since its a work monitor I guess you can't provide pricing info but I would have liked to know about warranty situation and a bit more explanation of the features. If you decide to re-write, I will be happy to re-rate.
