My husband, a chef by trade, has been struggling with health problems for several years and hasn't been able to work more than a few hours a week in the catering industry. He's always been interested in computers so having seen the adverts, we thought there would be nothing to lose in giving Computeach a call as we felt he may be better suited to a less physical job.
The advisor came to our house and began by attempting to assure us that he wasn't a salesman. He told us about Computeach's policy of only accepting the best candidates and quite early on informed us that my husband could be earning £55,000 in a few years time. This was after having asked lots of personal questions and decided that my husband was best suited to the networking route. He showed us the facilities at the Dudley training centre such as the canteen and classrooms, stressing how much space there was between terminals, the size of the desks and how good the food was. He flattered my husband by saying he was one of the best candidates he had seen since he started the job and that he was almost certain to be accepted for the course. He also told us about Computeach Careers who would almost certainly be able to get my husband a job after he had completed ten weeks of the course. So far so good...
We were ALMOST sold on the idea.....and that's why I felt I had to write this review.
The alarm bells started to ring when he told us to ignore anything we may read about Computeach or Computeach careers on the internet. He said the 85% pass rate spoke for itself and implied that any negative feedback may have been posted onto the internet by rival companies.
There was no mention of how my husband would manage the course (and hold down the job Computeach careers would help him to obtain) with his health problems. To us, this would have been one of the major points to discuss, particularly as it was mentioned on more than one occasion that Computeach is an ethical company.
We also felt that some of the questions asked were a little intrusive and not particularly relevant. For example, I don't believe that my husband's family background has a lot of bearing on his ability to do a course.
And then we came onto the cost of the courses! It was finally mentioned towards the end of the visit. The full three year group of courses would cost £5,250. However, we were not given the option to simply sign up for the starter courses. The advisor told us that the first course would last ten weeks by which time my husband would be able to build his own computer and troubleshoot any faults, potentially giving him enough skills to start looking for a job in somewhere such as PC World or a similar environment. This would have suited him down to the ground but the advisor dismissed this and said you don't want to do that, you want to be earning big money. It came across therefore, as we had to sign up for the whole group of courses and the option was never given to sign up for them individually or to just undertake the more basic courses.
More worrying for me was the offer of arranging a loan to pay for the £5250 fees. During the personal questions, we told the advisor that we already had debt problems, hence the reason why we were looking into a career change for my husband. Despite being touted as an ethical company, he seemed to have no qualms in offering to arrange a bank loan for us including a 'buy now, pay later' loan which was interest free for 12 months, with interest of 29.8% after that.
Whilst I can't comment on the quality of the courses offered by Computeach or their customer service, I really wanted to write this to warn others about *******************************************
***************. That may sound dramatic but the advisor, as a part of Computeach, was prepared to sell a £5,250 course to a man with restrictive health problems, who clearly couldn't afford it and to land us with a potentially crippling 29.8% loan into the bargain.
******************************************************************
******************************** For example, he asked me where I would like to go on holiday, my dream location. That was then used as a bargaining tool ie: look at what you can earn and then you will be able take your wife on all these dream holidays which you'll never be able to do otherwise.
Obviously, Computeach is a business like any other and has to make money but I thought the methods ******************************* in view of the fact the company was being marketed as being ethical and that the advisor was "not a sales person". Thankfully, we didn't sign up to anything but it worried me to think that other people could so easily be talked into something they simply could not afford in and wasn't right for them.
Computeach is clearly the right thing for some people as indicated by a couple of reviews on Ciao but please, please think very carefully before signing up for anything!

Advantages: The two days in-centre training is "OK"
Disadvantages: Apauling customer service, an all round rip-off, holds you back.
...everything you send or ask Computeach for has to be chased up before they give a reply. The letters that they send out are unspecific and miss out fundamental bits of information such as the letter inviting me in-centre, not giving an address for the venue or the duration of the course.
In my opinion Computeach fail on all aspects of customer service and actually hold people back. For just over a hundred pounds I can go and take the exam I need ... ...to go and take it with them. There is no need in paying for this all they will do is hold you back so that they get as much money from you and you will be left with without gaining the full qualification.
My advice would be to avoid these people what ever you do. I certainly won't be paying them for any further courses. I was lucky that I only paid for a foundation course. ...

Review of Computeach by

Advantages: Helpful Service, Good instructors
Disadvantages: Nothing important
My experiences with Computeach seem to be somewhat different to some others I have read on this site...
Originally, I was seen by one of their reps just over a year ago and he was very helpful. I knew a little about computers, but I wouldn't call myself a techie! I can't remember everything now, but he spent plenty of time with me going through which sectors of the market would suit me and we both arrived at programming. I chose the microsoft certfication ... ...to build some experience.
Computeach have been good at most things. The instructors are helpful, the service has always been reasonably prompt. Yes, it did cost quite a lot, but I (unlike others I have read about) didn't expect a free lunch. At the end of the day, I looked at cheaper ways of doing it myself but realised that just like losing weight, if I relied entirely on myself I would never do it! I wanted telephone support (not just to buy a ...

Poor Computeach
Review of Computeach by

Advantages: Nice lunch
Disadvantages: £5000 for a nice lunch
...MCSE, I live near to computeach and they seemed to be a big company, so I thought why not.
All seemed well at first, books, test engine and e-learning info arrived quickly and away I went. I did not her from a tutor for weeks on end (they are supposed to monitor your progress) and when I did call them I was told my course was expiring very shortly, its seems that if you are what they deem 'corporate' you only have a matter of weeks to complete the ... ...were quite stressed out!
Computeach seem to crow about being the only Microsoft training partner to be able to alter content of Microsoft press books, in fact what they do is split them in half and put Computeach covers on them, I still dont understand why they feel the need to do this.
The classroom training was ok, although a lot of practicals did not work and left the tutor scratching his head. A lot of time was wasted discussing non IT subjects ...

Review of Computeach by

Advantages: gaining knowledge and certifications, excellent carears service
Disadvantages: high price
I signed up with computeach for the MCDBA course back in january 2007.
the sales man did not give the hard sell, he just explained the facts of the courses on offer, although the estimated salary's did seem to be high, I did some research and found the quoted salaries were correct but you do need the qualifications and experience. however computeach do have their own carears department which do look for and help you find work in the I.T. industry.
... ...exams.
all in all the computeach has been a good experience for me and well worth the money.
I have learned a lot up to now and have a lot more to learn.
I have already made a bit of money from my knowledge by helping friends, neighbours and family members set up and troublehoot thier pc's.
An update on my progress.
I have how passed 2 exams and qualified as a microsoft certified desktop support technician and well on my way to becoming a server ...

Review of Computeach by
andrewsays
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive, no refunds after 14 days, poor quality of customer service
...I signed up for a Computeach course. The sales rep kept saying how important it was to move quickly and get the career development loan for £4000 so it could be paid to Computeach. He was pleased once this was confirmed. I waited and some books came. The quality was rather poor and out of date. Letters from Computeach were full of spelling errors which undermined my confidence in their abilities! The stage 3 book was just a £29.99 book from Microsoft ... ...I was very disappointed that Computeach charged so much for providing so little. Self-study distance learning is difficult enough without problems of contacting tutors and getting decent feedback. I would recommend anyone interested in getting into IT either does a local college/university course or buys some books and does some self-learning and looks for opportunities with their current employer. I am now working in an IT job in the civil service, ...
