"Buy this for great computer advice"

I recently purchased an issue of Computer Active magazine for the special offer of a £1. It is a fortnightly publication, and normally retails at a very reasonable price of £1.20.
The issue 've just read has 98 pages. Great value at virtually a penny a page ! And in full colour too .
The pages are not glossy but that dosen't matter a jot to me . I'm more concerned about the content and on that score - Computer Active is excellent.

In fact I can't speak highly enough of this great value for money magazine.I've read about ten of the 85 issues that have so far been published, and every one has increased my basic knowledge of computers.

The magazine is aimed at the everyday person in the street . You don't need a special amount of skill or knowledge to follow the advice given.
Likewise if you have a modicum of knowledge you will still find this useful.

The content and style of the magazine are good . At the beginning there is an interesting news round up of the latest gizmos and virus protections etc. They often look at the latest product developments by the likes of Microsoft and "add ons" and stuff .

Another interesting page is the netchart page . This looks at recommended websites , and comes up with a site of the fortnight.

Computer Active are keen to offer the best deals around for their readership . They often test out and rate products according to price , ease of use and ease of repairs .
They look at internet banking quite a lot and warn of the pitfalls and advantages of this type of banking.
The cybershopper feature they have looks at shopping on line using credit cards and internet sites .
The latest games for PC's are put through their paces , also and they recommend in their view whether or not a particluar game or product is worth buying.

In the middle of the magazine is a pullout section which is great and the best part of the mag for me .
Every fortnight covers a different topic - guiding you through a task in stages with pictures and diagrams .This week it is how to use different fonts and text in word documents .
Other subjects covered include designing your own cards , spreadsheets , using windows ME to get best results. How to password protect your PC.

All this is good topical stuff . The strength of the mag is they publish what readers want to know .
They have a useful hints and tips page , alongside a letters page with some very relevant and good questions with answers to boot !

Even the adverts are interesting . Mind you the same could be said of other computer mags.
If there is a slight gripe it is that the magazine does contain a lot of ads . But to be fair don't they all ?

In conclusion . A great all round mag . It's not too technical or expensive and is sure to add to anyones knowledge of computers in general.

Lee, I have read quite a few of your ops that have copyright written in full. Did you know that by holding down alt then typing 0169 you can get © ???? (possibly easier, that was with thanks to scotgirl - I got that from one of her ops!)
