Not all Maps & Colouring!
Advantages: Fantastic City, Good Facilities, 8 Hours Per Week Disadvantages: Expensive City, Fair Amount of Work
...they learn I’ve been studying Geography is… “Oh so you’re good at colouring in?” or “Oh can you give me directions to so and so?” When really the truth of the matter is that doing Geography doesn’t make me a fantastic colourer nor does it make me a walking A-Z! So what’s it all about then?
* The Subject *
Geography is classed as a social science – it’s not a scientific subject nor does it belong to the alternative arts group of subjects. It spans ... ...Most of you who studied Geography at school will no doubt have (un) fond recollections of colouring in maps, looking at tourism, cycles of rain and problems of pollution – when really there is much, much more to it (or so I’m told!).
* Geography at Manchester *
At Manchester you either opt for a Geography BA or BSC degree; a BA simply stands for Bachelor of Arts which means you will study the more human sides of Geography (as well as having done ...

University isn't what it may seem
Advantages: A lifeshaping event Disadvantages: Can be expensive, stress!
I have decided to write an opinion on University for a number of reasons; not entirely from my own personal experience but after sharing thoughts in millions of discussion with friends.
The most annoying thing you will learn to hear from people who are not at university or ever attended is 'students have it easy'. Only when you actually become a student can you understand how exasperating this statement is! Fair enough, we do get chance to go out ... ...TAKE the chance to go out. First year students will be saying - 'yeah, but we do...' and in the first year, you can afford to go out all the time and do no work, but when these people fail in the second year they often wonder why.
It is tempting to go out and get drunk every nite - go to a couple of lectures, have a couple of hours in the pub and then go to a club. You might be surprised to find that this DOESN'T happen much after the first year. ...

Quality course, useful lectures, great city
Advantages: Excellent teaching staff, great location, good student atmosphere Disadvantages: Few females (on this course anyway)
I'm just about to enter into my third year on the MEng version of this course. I came to Manchester because it was rated excellent in terms of teaching and I liked the look of the course. The city was also very appealing as there are currently around 50,000 students in Manchester split between the four universities and there is a good supply of student-oriented shops, pubs, clubs, etc. The course itself is designed so that people with no prior knowledge ... ...challenge for some. Fortunately, the lecturers are very friendly and are always willing to help people who are struggling.
I sometimes find the lectures boring (they wouldn’t be lectures otherwise), but I think that what I’ve been taught so far is very useful. The CS Labs have also been greatly beneficial and are pretty reasonable in terms of difficulty – having programmed before is an obvious advantage. I’ve learned to program in C, Java, SML, ...

Is there a better place to be than Manchester!!!!
Advantages: more teaching time than any other Uni geog to degree Disadvantages: more teachin gtime than any other Uni geog degree
...like to study. From Human geography of Ireland, To glaciology to geomedical sytems.
6. In the second yr at easter you can go on a wicked field trip to a whole host of destinations. Last yrs included Cuba, New York, Spain and Ireland. All the trips are subsidised and everyone including tutors has a good laugh.
7.The department have its own computer cluster and 4 big lecture theatres most of which have just been refitted.
8.Department has its own ... ...normal ones.
8. hhmnn maybe I should go to uni more any questions let me knwow though.
Overall its a great place and any degree you do here or pretend to do will be most enjoyable. There is also currently massive investment in the town and uni as UMIST and manchester unis merge to create on even better uni. Top up fees shouldnt put the price up as much as in other unis, and everything inmanchester is cheaper anyway.
Hope you have fun whatever ...
