...University of Southampton has a very high rank and top rank for teaching and research in electronics and computersciences. I am a student here for the undergraduate course (Computer Engineering) and currently a Ph.D. research student in Image, Speech and Intelligent System research group.
From my personal experience, the Department of Electronics and ComputerScience provide a very good research base for students who like to try out their new ideas. For the undergraduate course, they have designed many many lab base assignment and lab work which will give the students hands-on experience. This will prepare the student when they go into the industrial world....

Advantages: good lecturers and high quality facilities Disadvantages: poor science department in library
...The first year lectures are basically 2 years worth of A Level lessons, not only that but there are some lecturers who have no control over the students who assume that it is ok to stroll in late and play cards in the back of lectures. However, I wouldn't say that about all the lecturers. Most are completely competent speakers with an enthusiasm for their specific subject area and almost all are willing to help you, and want you to succeed if you are willing to speak to them in person. Not only this, but they are understanding of any problems that you might have. Both the laboratory and computer facilities are of a high quality with no complaints.
The university library has a poor collection of books in it's science department, which is a huge disappointment and an inconvenience for a subject which requires a great amount...

Advantages: quite interesting Disadvantages: very hard
...I have just finished my first term here studying ComputerScience...and I really do need a break! I'm only doing 25% computerscience, through the Natural Sciences tripos. It is definately the hardest of my 4 subjects. I thought I had quite a lot of experience with computers, as i've had summer jobs working programming before. However, ML, the language you study in your first term is like none other! I found it really hard to get to grips with, and still need to do a lot of work over the holiday to get up to speed. Discrete maths, which we're doing now, despite it's reputation, is actually a lot easier. Well, it is so far!
I would advise anyone taking this course to be prepared to do a lot of work for it, and to only do it if they know it really is what they want to do. I would definately not pick it if your reasons are just...

Since I've reviewed virtually every Babylon 5 DVD release, I figured I may as well carry on going and aim for the clean sweep! So then, this time I'm reviewing the box set of three feature length Babylon 5 films. I must confess, I don't actually own this more
I work as a science teacher in a school. I have used this software and i think that it is outstanding. It covers the whole of Key stage 3 and it can be used for lower ability key stage 4 students.
It is extremly simple to use. It is engaging and... more
