Certainly there's quite a few updates and new entries, but still some major omissions. One of those is a source of further information. From a reputable imprint like Oxford perhaps one learns to expect better, only to be disappointed. Perhaps all that's being too picky, for the price (under a tenner from Amazon), it's much better than most of its rivals and does, at least, assume the reader can understand words of more than one syllable. If you're looking for a broad, but not necessarily in-depth guide this may well be worth checking out
Advantages: Really easy to read, layout is excellent. Disadvantages: Like it says in the title - concise. Sometimes not enough detail.
When i joined medical school i was given this dictionary for free by the Medical Defense Union, and i've found it more useful that many of my books which cost £40! The recommended retail price is £11.99, and that would be money well spent!
I have the third edition, which claims to have nearly 11,000 entries of which over 500 are new for this edition. The entries are really easy to locate, and the entry name is written in red, distinguishing it from ... ...that it's really hard to look at a page and find the word you want, but with this one, the colour really stands out.
So far in my medical teaching (i'm a second year medical student) I've found that nearly every word i've wanted to look up has been in here. The description in each entry is easy to read and a good summary of the term. For more detailed information it is necessary to use other books, but this gives an excellent overview. On the cover ...
