presents a stylised view of the confrontation, allowing players to see the war unfold through the eyes of either Delta Force or the good old SAS. Combining first and third-person perspectives with a thoroughly well-designed team-based model, the game manages to pull off the almost unthinkable double for a console by being both engaging and easy to manage--not something that comes easily when you have a limited number of controller buttons. The plotline is standard military sim fare--strategic targets must be blown up, prisoners rescued and bullets expended by the thousand--but the extra edge provided by the ability to drive vehicles and to creep around undetected by the excitable Iraqi guards makes this a must-have rather than a nice-to-have. The maximum squad size for any given mission is four team members, each soldier having a special ability ranging from marksmanship to explosives use. In theory, handling four troops simultaneously sounds like a tall order but developer Pivotal has done a great job of creating a control system that works well, even in the heat of battle. Desert Storm is not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination and the learning curve can be quite steep; stick with it, though, and there's much to recommend it. For the cautious player there's an excellent training mode that gives thorough instruction on how to perform all of the basic functions and is guaranteed to turn you into a killing machine. --Chris Russell

game players, this sequel is still set in the original 1991 Gulf War. It's a squad-based shooter that follows the testosterone-enriched adventures of soldiers Bradley, Foley, Connors and Jones as they travel 300 km further behind enemy lines beginning with--and couldn't you just guess it--a rescue mission at a downed Black Hawk helicopter within a heavily fortified city. Of course, replicating dangerously jingoistic American movies is exactly what Conflict: Desert Storm II is all about and there's a ton of new hardware in this sequel to get even the most steadfast pacifist reaching for the Arnie one-liners. You've got new phosphor grenades, a laser designator to call in helicopters and jet planes and, best of all, the chance to jump in a jeep and spray bad guys with heavy machine gun fire. As well as adding new features Conflict: Desert Storm II also fixes problems with the original game, in particular the often highly erratic frame rate, which is a lot smoother than before. The co-op mode is also back and better than ever, especially as you can now pick any level from the single-player mode to play through at any time. --David Jenkins

Advantages: Plenty of good missions. Pretty realistic. Graphically sound. No bugs Disadvantages: Enemy AI can be dodgy at times. In-game music is crap!

Advantages: A totally new approach to this type of game Disadvantages: The sound effects and music isn't too great
Conflict Desert Storm, as the title suggests this game is set during operation Desert Storm in the gulf war. This game has taken a completely unoriginal war theme and turned it into something special. Conflict Desert Storm mixes fun and realism which is a refreshing change from other ‘serious’ tactical shooters. The game is very simple, but don’t get me wrong this is by no means a bad thing, you play a special forces squad leader ... ...worry about you’re squad in Conflict Desert Storm, they can take good care of themselves. Providing you’ve told them what to do and positioned them correctly you can create ambushes, you can surround the enemy and perform many other maneuvers. In some cases you can sit back, relax and let them do the work. However in most parts of the game you’ll have to contribute considerably to the mission and provide you’re squad with ...

Advantages: Very atmospheric, intuitive missions and surprisingly addictive Disadvantages: Frustrating controls and fairly average visuals
...War, but make no mistake; Conflict Desert Storm provides a refreshing and enjoyable take on the 3rd-person war genre, despite its (perhaps) inappropriate selling-point and unfortunate timing…
During 1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait, and at that point the American and British coalition stepped in to intervene. Conflict Desert Storm has you taking control of a team of highly trained British commandos or U.S Delta Force operatives to assume the role ... ...There are 15 missions in Conflict Desert Storm and as you progress through each one your team receives more experience; making each soldier more efficient so you won’t find yourself giving your team mates as many commands as when you first begun, which helped to up the games enjoyment in my opinion, purely because it makes you feel less individual and more of a team as opposed to when you first start.
I was impressed by the amount of thought, ...

A New Age war game from Gotham games that is descent but is not a game that you should really hunt down and make it your favorite game. I've heard that some people have really liked this game but I don't see any real great strong point. The only thing that was nice about it was, well I did not like any thing that great to comment about. This is a third person game and are in command of a four man squad. The graphics are poor which really sucks because ... ...gameplay kills the fun out of everything. If you ever play a game from Gotham Games you will notice that the characters feel as if you are play ing with a blob shaped body, they seem baggy which will create deffects in the game when you are moving down a hill or trying to shoot an enemy. I got this game for $3.99 and I wish I had that money back. This is another disappointment from Gotham Games. ...
