THE GAME ITSELF
The game is made up of red and yellow counters and a simple blue plastic grid. The game is for two players and each player chooses one of the colours. The object of the game is to then slot the counters in the grid (it houses ... ...olds line up to play connect 4, with it taking precedence over all the other board games. I think therefore, that a classroom of primary children can't be wrong!!
PS You know your skill is increasing when you both fill the grid and reach a stalemate!

THE GAME ITSELF
The game is made up of red and yellow counters and a simple blue plastic grid. The game is for two players and each player chooses one of the colours. The object of the game is to then slot the counters in the grid (it houses 42 counters as a maximum) at the top (taking turns) and the first player to get four counters in a straight line wins. The line can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal, but the row must be uninterrupted. Of course, whilst you are trying to get your four in a row, you are at the same time trying to block your opponent from achieving the same thing.
What I like most about the game is that very young children can master it (I would say age 4 upwards) yet it has enough interest for adults too. I also like the fact that generally it involves a bit of skill. It isn't about throwing a dice and the outcome being left to chance, you have to think your way through it, without it being as intense as chess or draughts.
They say small things amuse small minds - well I get a great deal of satisfaction setting a trap and watching the opponent hovering their fingers over the appropriate column. I hold my breath....and bang, they drop the counter into the trap and immediately recognise what they have done!!! GAME OVER!!! Sad I know, I mustn't get out much!
The beauty of this game is that adults aren't infallible and a slip of concentration can mean that a five year old is crowned champion!!
***PROS***
It is a very quick game to both set up and to master even for the youngest child. It offers great fun for children and adults alike, and is a reasonably inexpensive game in return for the years of fun it offers. It also develops mathematical and tactical skills in young children.
***CONS***
I still have my game from when I was a kid and I have to say the build quality was much sturdier back then. My children have the updated version and it is a lot flimsier.
Also only two players can participate. We get around this by holding tournaments to find the grand champion.
***AVAILABLITY***
The game is available for around £10 although they can sometimes be cheaper and are often included in 3 for 2 offers at Toys R Us. There are also used versions available on Ebay. There are also travel versions and my daughter has a hand held electronic version that she can play alone. The box states 6 plus, however my children began playing this aged 4 and began to play with skill at around age 7.
***SUMMARY***
For adults, this is a great game for days when you just can't be bothered. It is simple to set up and a game that doesn't take too long (usually) so your children appreciate that you have played with them - but it doesn't take all day (like some other board games I could mention!).
The game must have merit, as during wet playtimes at the school where I work, the class of eight year olds line up to play connect 4, with it taking precedence over all the other board games. I think therefore, that a classroom of primary children can't be wrong!!

This game has been around for years, and it is still as playable as ever. Kids love it, and I must admit, I will gladly have a go myself from time to time. My partner and I bought it for our two youngest, as having it as a child, I remebered how much I liked it, and we though they would too.
Over the years it hasn't changed much. The only difference I have noticed, is there is now a plastic tray to catch the pieces, where as mine never had that.

**********************SETTING UP********************
This is so simple. When you take it out the box, you slide the grid along, either way, and then stand it up in the middle of the tray. It will not topple over, as it is held in place.
******************PLAYING THE GAME******************
This is also simple. You have two players, and you divide the playing pieces between them. Each having their own colour.

...smell the distinct wiff of connect four and then when you attach the pieces of plastic it forms an incredibly simple yet effective game.
Connect four is a game of skill and strategy which teaches people the ideas of logic and helps with games lke chess draughts and solitaire. There are two different sets of pieces:yellow and red, they both have the same amount of pieces.
You take turns in putting piecies down into a grid. The idea of the game as ... ...own four.
Anyway connect four is a great ideaand game full of different possibilities and you rarely get bored of it and even if you are bad at it or get annoyed by it you will eventually come crawling back to play it. A really good game that everyone should have in their house. Connect four is now practicaly an institution and is on phones and computers globally. ...

I bought Connect Four, for my Step-daughter a couple of years ago, and it cost me 4.99 from Woolworths. However, I have seen this game quite recently priced at 2.99 in Wilkinsons, which is a real bargain for so much fun. My Step-daughter aged 10 absolutely loves this game and so does my Boyfriend aged 39, so it is definitly suitable for allsorts of age groups. They can both sit there for hours continuasly playing game after game, in fits of laughter. ... ...30 green counters. Connect Four is a game designed for 2 players, hence the 2 different coloured counters. The object of the game is to slot your counters into the top of the vertical panel, and try and get 4 counters of your own colour in a row and then you have won.
Your opposition must try and stop you and at the same time try and score themselves 4 in a row aswell. Once one person has won, then you can just start all over again, and to do this ...

...up with the idea of Connect Four and a good idea it is too. In both cases you have to line up the required number of symbols either, horizontally, vertically or diagonally. In noughts and crosses it is three symbols and the game is played on paper whilst in Connect Four it is four symbols or coloured disks and the game is played in a special frame.
The upright standing frame has 6 columns into which will fit 7 of the provided disks on top of each ... ...bit of forethought and ingenuity Connect Four could also be played using a piece of paper like Noughts and Crosses or tic tac toe as the Yanks call it.
Mark out 42 squares as 7 rows and 6 columns and clearly mark the base line. Each player writes his/her symbol in the column of his/her choice but it must be as close to the base line as is possible. So remember, next time that you are cast away on a desert island you can while away the time by playing ...

...another classic from MB Games. Connect 4 has been around for over 25 years and remains a firm family favourite. For 2 players, recommended ages of 7 years and above, the concept is simple.
You have a blue plastic grid, consisting of 42 holes, laid out as seven columns of six. In addition to that, you have 42 counters, 21 are yellow, and the other 21 are red.
The idea is that the players take it in turns to drop their counters into any of the seven ... ...take it in turns.
Connect 4 is still available to buy in the original version, but probably more popular now is the travel version. The principal of the game is the same, the difference is the size. With the travel version being less than a ¼ the size of the original, it’s handy to put in a bag or pocket to take on holiday.
The only problem with the travel version may be for adult players trying to get hold of the counters. They are around ...

The board has 42 circular holes in it where you can see the counters that have been dropped in through the top. In the 1920's two brothers created a company selling textile remnants. They soon started making and selling pencil cases and things for schools. This company was Hasbro. Over the years Hasbro purchased various other toy companies.
Working with children for many a year I have played with lots of Hasbro toys. I was in the playground at work this week and joined in a game of connectfour on the giant garden edition of this game.

This is the classic counter game for two players, the aim of the game is for those players to compete against each other taking it in turns to try to be the first to connectfour counters together.
Players take it in turns to use the yellow and red counters and placing them into the grid to form a straight line of four in a row, vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Who ever gets the four in a row wins the game. Each player takes it in turns and needs to think strategically as to where to put there next counter to help them to get four in a row, but to also think about if they need to block their opponent to stop them from winning the game.
The game is simple but is great as it does not require hours to set up and a game can be as quick or as long as you want it to be. There are also not a long list of rules to be able to play ...
