I purchased Cooking Mama when it was released around Christmas time in 2006. It was not a game that I had asked for Christmas and while shopping it caught eye with its brightly designed and cartoon graphics on the front cover. I quickly picked up a copy and purchased it with delight.
Cooking Mama is a cooking themed game that offers the player a chance to make 76 different recipes with an anime chef called cooking mama - Once you have made your recipes Cooking Mama will always rate how well you have done in creating different parts of the dish and how well you bring it all together.
You go through the game doing different techniques such as pouring, chopping, slicing, frying, boiling, grating all the ingredients and cooking them correctly they give you t up and down. All is clearly shown to you and you can be shown various he instructions of how to do the techniques in making the recipe, You do all these technique by using the DS Stylus, such as dragging it back and forth and moving it up and down etc... you can of course practice all you want before doing the whole recipe all together and become graded on the recipe by Cooking Mama. This whole technique continues through-out the game and although gets very tedious and you cannot really play this game for hours on end, because basically it gets boring very quickly.
The structure to the game is basically pick a recipe from the selection off the menu, practice how to make it, make it properly (which only takes a few minutes) and then be graded by Cooking Mama, then you go back to the selection on the menu to pick again and so forth.
Cooking Mama is an extremely vibrant game full of colour that could not offend anyone whatever age you may be, There are plenty of recipes that you can complete but it will never take you that long to complete each recipe and you never feel any sort of progression in the game as it is the same thing over and over again and is extremely easy to complete. I still have this game from three years ago and go back to it every now and again for an hour or so, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to play a game that you do not have to think about and can play over and over again because of how easy to is to play.
