Advantages: Great picture, awesome soundmix Disadvantages: Featurettes run too short
When I first saw The Perfect Storm in a movie theatre I thought it was at times moving and a real thrill ride. Some reviewers have attacked the film for using a lot of sentiment and on a second viewing some of the views are fair. However once the storm hits you are gripped by some awesome effects.
Now on to the dvd itself. The film is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and is enhanced for widescreen TV’s. The transfer is perfect and very sharp. Sometime dvd transfers have a problem with water in a film. No such troubles here.
The sound mix has been nominated for an Oscar and it's easy to see why. It's a very enveloping mix that uses all speakers once the Andrea Gail is caught up in the storm. Advantages: Ready meal timing, real meal taste Disadvantages: Have to be organised to make the recipies!
) and light enough to prop up when cooking from it. There is an introduction (repeating the idea that this is not "real" cooking) before you get onto the recipes and a few pages with labour saving ideas, such as making the most of your freezer. Now I can see the point in using ready grated cheese when you are in a rush (even though it is ...
Advantages: cheap recipe ideas, helpful for beginner cooks, informal style Disadvantages: no pictures, some recipes are a bit too adventurous
written in a joking, "young" style and it takes half of this single page of writing to get past descriptions of packing clothes and finding the Students' Union before mentioning cooking. It's relatable and practical and, although I wasn't into nights of drinking and living on takeaways, I recognise that I wasn't a "typical student" and that the editors want to appeal to everybody.
I could cook a meal with reasonable accuracy when I arrived at university, but I couldn't judge cooking times well so my typical meal up to that point was overcooked fish fingers, undercooked peas and slightly lumpy mashed potato. But some students have never cooked at all - so The Student Cookbook really goes back to basics. As well as advice to shop sensibly and not get carried away with buying more food than you can store just because it's on offer, it suggests ...
