I used to have an egg timer in the shape of a chicken, it looked good, it was funky cheap and always worked well. I then dropped it and it smashed in to about 15 pieces which was a real shame! I wanted to replace it with something simple that fitted in well with my kitchen décor and this black & chrome timer was ideal for that.

This is a black timer with a chrome dial. This is very simple to wind up and takes just a few seconds, it is a light timer which feels a little cheap. The timer does wind up well though and does not get stuck or stop at all, well it hasn't so far anyway. There is a rounded part to the back of this timer and the front is flat with an angle to it. The numbers are marked from 5 to 60 in increments of 5 and there are lines to mark each minute in between these increments. These numbers are well marked and have not begun to rub off despite several months usage. I also find the numbers quite simple to read even when I do not have my glasses on.

This timer ticks quietly once it has been set which allows me to hear that the timer has been set and is working correctly. The ringer on this is very loud and I can hear it wherever I am in my home so I know when my pan has finished boiling. With five minutes to go there is a short bell that rings out to let me know that the timer is almost at its end and then once the timer has finished there is a longer burst that I always hear before it finishes.

My oven has a clock on it and I use this to time how long something has been in the oven if I am going to be sitting in the room, however this is not much use if I am working around the home or doing some housework. This timer is loud enough for me to hear it wherever I am and while it feels flimsy it has not let me down so far. The price of this was just under £4.00 when I paid for it a few months back and I was very happy with this, it looks nice on the side in my kitchen and it works which really is all I need!
