Advantages Easy to clean.
Disadvantages None, so far.
I bought this fryer because I loved the idea of been able to take it apart to clean it. After many years of struggling to keep a traditional deep fat fryer clean I couldn't wait to test drive this one.
I wasn't disappointed, after removing the power section, the oil tray comes out and the basket, lid, oil tray and wall of fryer can be washed in soapy water. The only drawback is trying to keep the power supply part clean but the rest looks as good as new. For safety reasons. of course, washing the power supply part is not advisable, although wiping with a cloth removes any dust but not all the grease stains. As for operating the fryer, this is very easy. There are a number of temperature settings with icons to show which foods (chips, fish, chicken, etc) require which temperature. Thermostat control prevents fryer from getting too hot and is indictaed by a light. Light is red when oil is heating then turns green when oil is hot enough to use. There are two oil level indicators for miniumum and maximum oil level (maximum level takes about 2 1/2 litres of oil) and basket hooks over side of pan to make putting food in easier. Pan is big enough to cook enough chips for 2 adults and 2 children. Pan lid must be left off during cooking and there is no filter so your walls may need extra cleaning :-\
This fryer does not have a timer so watching food is essential, although i tend to find that when the light goes green again during cooking most items are cooked. Not a very scientific method but it works for me.Instruction manual is easy to follow and item is covered by the usual 12 month guarantee. I payed around £30 for this fryer but bought it from the catalogue so may be cheaper elsewhere. In my opinion, not a bad buy and the easy maintenance is a bonus.
After 24 hours of thinking my fryer was kaputt, I discovered another great feature of this appliance. If the oil level is too low or for any reason the oil overheats, the unit cuts itself off. inside the power supply where the cable can be stored is a little button that pops out and can be reset once the oil has cooled. Yet another great safety feature, this appliance just gets better :-)
