...came across this smart looking Cookworks XQ663 coffee machine. Cookworks is what you would call a budget brand, cheap and cheerful electrical machinery such as kettles, toasters, microwaves etc... I think it may be exclusive to Argos as i have not seen it stocked anywhere else. Indeed, it says in the catalogue it is " Only at Argos"
The Cookworks filter coffee maker describes itself as:
10 Cup capacity
1.25 litre capacity ...kitchen.
The Cookworks XQ663 is avalable from Argos at the bargain price of £7.24. However, when i bought mine (the week before Christmas) it had been reduced to £4.99! What a bargain! But im not sure if it will still be at that price now as i know there is a new catalogue out.
Who doesn't enjoy the smell and taste of a freshly made cup of filter coffee? Well, me actually. Let me tell you more...
When i was at secondary school, there was a particular teacher who's coffee breath was something of legend. He must have drank at least a gallon of the stuff a day(he actually bought a flask into lessons) and when he got up close to you, the stench of stale coffee breath was enough to make you wretch. This experience completely put me off coffee for years.
Then about 6 months ago, i went to an open mic night at a local coffee house (very cool, very Friends) and was persuaded by the friendly coffee maker to try a latte with hazlenut syrup. Well i did and i loved it! I felt that i had missed out on the joys of coffee for so long and made it my mission to buy a filter coffee machine and try out lots of different blends.

Indeed, it says in the catalogue it is " Only at Argos" The Cookworks filter coffee maker describes itself as: 10 Cup capacity 1.25 litre capacity Anti drip Filter Water level guage Thermostatic hotplate Keep warm function Non slip feet
It has a black plastic finish, which honestley does not make it look cheap, with a black plug. It couldnt be easier to use. Simply pull out the filter, fill with your choice of coffee, fill up the water container at the back (you will need to use a measuring jug to do this as it is not removeble)and switch it on.
It takes around 5 minutes to make a full pot of coffee, in which time you can enjoy the satisfying aroma and the nice little gurgly noises it make.
It does say it has a 10 cup capacity...well they must be Hobbit cups then! As i am common(!) and drink from a mug, i found that realistically you only get about 3 mugs from it. But the thermostatic plate is very hot and does keep the coffee very hot and fresh for up to 2 hours
It is very easy to clean the glass pot and the filter, although the filter does tend to get quite stained. If this happens to you, the best thing to do is to buy filter papers which will stop this happening. It is very clean, does not drip or make a mess of your worktops and is compact enough to fit into a little nook of even the smallest kitchen.

Cookworks XQ663 Coffee Maker
When you are a student, the most important thing for you becomes how you should handle money. Students want to own everything which makes life easier for normal people without wasting much money. Cookworks XQ663 is a necessary item for coffee lovers, and definitely saves them from being inconvenienced and at a very low price. Actually, it is the cheapest basic coffee maker you can buy from Argos for £5.99 and I write ... ...Although my first coffee maker worked for one year only, and I didn't buy its warranty, yet I still believe it's a very good product. As you can see in the picture, it's just a basic coffee machine that can give you filter coffee in minutes, but this is all it can do. To make coffee, you lift the cover and fill with water to the desired level from two to twelve cups. Then swing the filter holder out and add coffee using the plastic measuring spoon ...

Advantages: fresh coffee in less than 5 minutes. Disadvantages: It doesn,t make a lot of coffee
...of choice i bought a cookworks coffee maker , as i,ve never had any of there products before i wasn,t sure what to expect , but as it was only 6.99 i thought i would give it a try.
The machine itself has a black finish and doesn,t look at all cheap , it says on the size of it where you put the water in, it makes a maximum of 12 cups, but if you have your coffee in a mug you will only get 3 maybe 4 mugs out of it .
~ How to use ~
its really simple ... ...and fill with water , you can,t take this part off the maker so i find it best to fill with a jug, its got numbers on the side saying it will fill from 2 to 12 cups, its see through so you can see have far you have filled it.
Then you fill the filter with a coffee of your choice, you might have to experiment with how much coffee you use, as i did as its smaller than my last coffee machine.
Then you just switch with the button on the front of the ...

Advantages: Cheap, works well and cleans easily Disadvantages: None
I love this machine for its ease of use, but also for the fact that it was incredibly cheap and does the same job as machines that come in at ten times the price. It was purchased as my third coffee maker in one year (I'm a clumsy beast), so I think I am now in a position to offer an objective view on the budget coffee maker market ;-) After the initial clean out, I've not had a single issue with this machine, it's flawless. Coffee is dumped into ... ...quickly* you have a passable cup of the black stuff. I will point out two things for potential purchasers to consider: 1) Remember that the size of a 'proper' cup of coffee is fairly small. If you're using mugs/larger tea cups, plan to make two cups as shown on the machine for each of your normal cups 2) Coffee from a drip machine will not be as strong as that from a good machine operating under pressure. I recommend using half as much coffee as ...

Advantages: Cheap, easy to clean, cheap, makes great coffee, cheap. Disadvantages: Filter lets some fine sediment through.
After the company I work for refused to renew the contract for the Tea & Coffee vending machines, myself and my co-workers were left without our daily caffeine hits. I got the machine from Argos for about £5 and for the price I was expecting a very flimsy bit of kit that would last about 5 minutes. It looks and feels very cheap but it makes hot coffee and that's the main thing. So far it has been running 40 hours a week over the last 6 months. At ... ...away with use. It says that you can get 12 cups from one pot but in reality you can only get about 8 or 9 average sized paper cups. The only real bad point is that the built in filter is rather coarse and lets some sediment through. Use with disposable filters is recommended. ...

Quick review of Cookworks XQ663
Before making coffee its worth running several lots of water through with salt added to remove smells,I always do this with coffee makers and its a worthwhile procedure, even baking powder will help to "Clear" the system of taste and smells .
The machine makes enough coffee for 3 mugs, fine for my use as that's as much as I need.
Its the second best coffee maker,at any price, that Ive owned for making hot coffee .
Do pour slowly with the jug resting on the cup rim to avoid spills.
At under £8 its a bargain and Ive no hesitation in recommending it ...
