Advantages: Cheap, well ventilated, screw-less design Disadvantages: None for me.
When upgrading my computer and installed the new parts in my old case, this proved to be a bit of a silly idea as the temperatures it was running at was too high.
Having largely spent out on the upgrade i wanted a fairly cheap case.
The CoolerMaster CM690 looked like it was to fit the bill perfectly, its was fairly cheap approx £55, it did NOT come with power supply, which for me wasn't a problem as I'd just bought a new CoolerMaster Real Power M620 620W PSU.
To start with this case looks very good and feels light when empty.
It also feels sturdy and well balanced on my desk and on carpet, although a carpet with too high a pile on it could interfere with the PSU exhaust and the mounting for another fan.
The front and top of the case is basically a big grille which obviously helps with letting the hot air escape.
Access is ...
First of all the Cosmos S case comes in excellent protective packaging. A sturdy cardboard outer box encases two styrofoam blocks (top & bottom) which prevent the case from moving at all during transportation. The case is wrapped inside of a plastic bag, and then again, inside CoolerMaster's own fabric bag which is brown in colour and is strong enough to retain and use in the future whenever the case needs covering. It's the little extra's and attention to detail that makes a lot of difference in my opinion.
If first impression's are anything to go by, then this case ticks all the boxes. It's huge, beautiful and demands the attention of any passer by, whether they are interested in computers or not!
Along with the case comes a plastic bag containing all of the necessary bits and pieces to assemble the case and control the cable ...
Advantages: Large, quiet, easy to fit Disadvantages: Rather large
I just bought and upgraded my PC, abandoning AMD and moving to Intel's Core i7 CPU. As a result, I wanted to buy a heatsink that would do the job and offer me overclocking abilities in the future. Being a geek it was a must to abandon the standard heatsink and opt for something more jazzy. Having already owned a Coolermaster PSU and finding it very reliable/quiet and also just purchasing a Coolermaster case, I thought i'd stick with a known quantity and go for this.
First thing to say it this heatsink is enormous, so if you are considering it make sure you have a good sized case. Luckily for me i have a Coolermaster Tower case (HAF 932) but the V8 still dominates it. That can only be a good thing though, with plenty of vents and pipes and all that other goodness, the heat from the CPU will be easily distributed and cooled. The V8 has ...
