I am a big fan of freshly squeezed juices, and the Copella juice range is a fantastic next-best option if you don't have a juice bar handy. I love to keep a carton at work, and usually drink a couple of glasses in the morning at the office for a late breakfast with a slice of toast, as I don't get hungry until about 10 am.

Price:

Some comments I have read feel that Copella is expensive, and I guess it is compared to juices that are made from concetrate. When I was growing up, my mum only bought juice from concentrate as she could not afford to have three kids guzzling down litres of fresh juice, so I can understand why some would find it expensive to buy in enough quantities for a family.

That said, it's priced at £1.75 for one litre at my local Tesco's, which is actually 35p cheaper than a one litre carton of Tropicana freshly squeezed orange juice! And as other reviews have pointed out, the 250 ml individual cartons are priced at a rather expensive 80p - £1 each, so £1.75 for four times as much seems like pretty good value to me.

Also, if I buy a fresh juice from a juice bar, I will be paying anywhere from £2.50 - £3.00 for one large serving (about 700 ml), so again, £1.75 for a litre is good value in comparison.

I am also happy to pay a bit more when I know I am getting a fresh, unprocessed product that has nothing added.

Flavours/texture:

My Tesco stocks three varieties - Apple and Elderflower, Apple and Mango and plain Apple. I have tried both the plain apple and the apple/mango flavours, and they are both firm favourites with me. There are other flavours too, details of which can be found at www.copellafruitjuices.co.uk

As you would expect, the juice is very smooth and natural tasting, and has a wonderful aroma of fresh apples too - very unlike apple juice from concentrate, which I always find tastes a bit metallic. Although there is some natural fruit sediment in the juice, which you shake to distribute each time you pour yourself a glass, I have never found that you can "feel" the sediment when you drink it - it's not like drinking orange juice with lots of pulp, for example.

Nutritional Information:

At the moment I have a carton of apple/mango, so here are the ingredients and the typical values of 100 ml of this flavour:

Ingredients: Apple juice (85%), mango puree (15%), ascorbic acid (vitamin C). No added water, additives, colouring or sweeteners.

Energy: 182 kj/43 kcal
Protein: 0.4g
Carbohydrate: 10.1g
Fat: 0.1g
Vitamin C: 30mg (50% of RDA)

So as you can see, one serving is super low in fat, fairly low in calories and is chock full of vitamin C. Sounds good to me!

Packaging:

All Copella juices come in a clear plastic bottle with a green paper label and a gold plastic lid, making it easily identified on the shelf. The use-by date is printed on the top of the lid, which I find much easier to spot than looking on the bottom as you have to do with some products.

The clear plastic bottle also lets you see the juice before you buy, which I think is a big plus. If you think about it, not many juice brands do that! You can see all the aforementioned lovely apple sediment in the plain apple flavour for example, which to me just goes to show how fresh and unprocessed it is.

The only slight (*slight*!) problem I've ever had with Copella juice is that the bottle can sometimes leak a tiny bit after opening if it's laying on its side, so I'd recommend storing it upright. If you have a small fridge as I do, then it can be a bit annoying to reshuffle all your groceries to make room, but it's worth it in the end. :-)

For myself, I'll be sticking to this brand to drink both at home and at work from now on.
