Don't laugh - the Corby is quite useful actually

Advantages: keeps your suits tidy and puts the creases back in your clothes
Disadvantages: can put creases in the wrong place if you don't put trousers in carefully

No-one who has ever stayed in a British hotel can surely be unaware of the Corby trouser press. I do wonder if there are any other manufacturers apart from Corby who make trouser presses. The three words are synonymous. The Company John Corby Limited is the company that makes the Corby trouser press. It was established in 1930 by John Corby in Windsor, England and originally made valet stands. A valet stand is wooden frame for putting a jacket on and hanging trousers overnight, so you could put them back on again in the morning. That'll be an over-engineered bedroom chair then, basically! But John Corby took them to a new level by adding a pressing area and lo! The first Corby trouser press was invented. They stuck a plug on them during the 1960s, so they were electrically heated. In 1977 John Corby Limited became part of what ...

Review of Corby 7700 Trouser Press

A very pressing matter!

Advantages: Easy to set up and use, generally good results
Disadvantages: Slight "show through" of side seams

of closing the press, again using the levers. As you do so, the bottom is gripped by the press and a stretcher bar at the top of the press gently pulls the trousers upwards to eliminate back-of-knee wrinkles. This feature is, according to Corby, unique to them. And that?s it! Your trousers will be ready to wear in 15 or 30 minutes depending on the setting ? although it is best to let them cool before wearing. THE FINAL RESULT Well, let?s just say my trousers are getting pressed a lot more than they used to! I find that a 15 minute press is fine for everyday wear, but the 30 minutes is better at getting rid of the back-of-knee wrinkles that occur when you are sat down for long periods. The press produces a good clean crease without the danger of a shiny finish to the fabric. This does depend 100% on you being careful when placing ...

Review of Corby 4400 Trouser Press

No Pressing Problems

Advantages: Presses trousers with minimal effort and produces a sharp crease.
Disadvantages: If the trousers are not put in perfectly you get a 'tramline' effect.

into the press incorrectly you?ll end up with tram lines running down the front of your trousers and the only way of successfully removing these is a trip to the dry cleaner or the washing machine. In the sixteen years that we?ve had the press this has happened a couple of times, but it was down to ?our? (i.e. ?his?) carelessness and was no fault of the press. Even repeated use of the press doesn?t leave the trousers looking shiny, which does happen with regular ironing. Incorporated in the press is the ?Corby Stretcher Bar System? which removes those annoying wrinkles at the back of the knee. I?d love to know how this works, because it really is very clever. There?s also a sprung section at the bottom of the heating pad to absorb turn-ups and hems so that they?re not left looking all flat and shiny, but to take advantage of this you ...
