I have had my slow cooker for some time now and to be quite honest I have never regretted the purchase once. I can’t remember how much I paid for it, but I have looked around and they’re somewhere in the region of £25 these days. For those of you who don't know the slow cooker uses about the same amount of electricity as a standard light bulb (i.e. not a lot) and cooks food slowly during the whole day. It consists of a crock cooking pot, which heats up when it is connected to the electrical supply. Other designs feature a crock-pot that sits inside a metal outer casing, which gets hot when ... more

I have just started university, and my advice regarding cooking is get one! Whether you are a student, or someone with little time to faff about preparing elaborate meals, a slow cooker will help you to eat healthy, nutritious meals with very little effort. You can get this slow cooker from Argos or any large electrical store such as Currys. It will set you back £25. A slow cooker is basically a large ceramic bowl that plugs into the electric. It works on a very low heat. The advantages of this are: *It uses very little electricity. Great if you have to pay the bill as it will save you money ... more

I recently began to use a “Cordon Bleu” slow cooker to cook meat while I am out of the house at work. This was a Christmas present from a business associate a couple of years back, but had lain in my attic ever since, still in the box and gathering dust. While rummaging around for the Christmas decorations, I happened across it, brought it down, and decided to give it a try. The first good point is its simplicity. You simply add water, any stock or vegetables that you wish to use, pop in your meat, and turn on the electricity. It can be left to simmer away in safety for the whole day, and does ... more

Advantages Advantages Cooking without the hassle

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you come home early you can't cook it quicker

My wife and I were given the Cordon Bleu Slow Cooker as a gift to aid our hectic lives. As most people do, my wife studied the receipies in the manual and paid particular attention to the pre heating instructions and cooking times. We tried several receipes and the results were very tasty. The only concern was the amount of time it took to prepare things in the morning. The general recommendation when using slow cookers is to pre heat the crock pot and any sauces that are made from powder rather than cook in sauces. If chicken is the main ingredient cooking time is recommended to be a lot ... more
