Recently i seem to have had a bit of bad luck where it comes to my household appliances, first it was the cooker which i have had for 8 years it decided not to cook anymore, then the washing machine broke then my lovely other half decided he wanted fried chips instead of our normal oven chips and when he switched our deep fat fryer on it blew all the sockets in the house giving us no electric for a while.
So to say the least i have had a bit of an appliance nightmare but all would be saved by my lovely mum well chips would anyway she bought me a brand spanking new deep fat fryer.

I'm not the sort of person that is bothered if all my kitchen paraphernalia matches so when my mum walked in with a stainless steel deep fat fryer i was more then happy to except her gift.

The Deep fat fryer comes in quite a large standard box which is blue and purple with the wording Cordon Bleu in the top left hand corner and Stainless Steel written in big white letter's down the wright hand side of the box., then a picture of the Deep fat fryer in the middle of the box.

On seeing the box i thought wow what a lovely addition to my kitchen, i thought this because the box is so big so i expected the Deep fat fryer to be as big as my old Deep fat fryer, how wrong i was on opening the box i was greeted with lot's of polystyrene which the Deep fat fryer was encased in and on closer inspection after disregarding the polystyrene i found a teeny tiny Deep fat fryer.

To say i was disappointed is an understatement but i had to give this poor defenceless Deep fat fryer the benefit of the doubt.

Inside the box is a clear instruction leaflet detailing how to care for your Deep fat fryer and explaining how much oil to use and the different temperature setting's this was all new to me as my old fryer didn't have different temperature setting's all i had to do was switch it on and wait for it to heat up.

The setting's on the fryer are :
160 oc for mushrooms
170 oc for fish
180 oc for chicken
190 oc for chips

These setting's are clearly shown on the base of the fryer along with the temperature control slider and you also have the pictures of the different food you can fry up the centre of the fryer along with the temperature's.

The basket of the Deep fat fryer is also tiny so you can only fry a few chips to be precise a couple of hand fulls at any one time so it will take a little longer to fry chip's if for instance you have a large family like me.

Inside the Deep fat fryer you have to line's indicating how much oil your aloud to put into the fryer you have the min and max line i filled mine up with vegetable oil to the min line which is sufficient as it cover's the chips nicely.

On using the Deep fat fryer i found that it heated up really quickly which also surprised me within about 5 minute's my oil was ready for the chips to be dropped into, and although the oil was very hot it gave me some very nice crispy golden brown chips, and after leaving the chips for a minute of two i found that the oil had dripped away nicely so i didn't have greasy chips.

The only downside i have found with this Deep fat fryer is unlike my old fryer which wasn't Stainless Steel the outside of the fryer get's very hot , and when covering the fryer with the lid while the food is cooking you get all the steam dispersing through the ventilation holes in the top of the lid which makes it hard to take the lid off again without burning yourself with the steam, so i would advise using a T towel to take the lid off or just not putting the lid on in the first place.

When you have finished using the Deep fat fryer you will need to wait for the oil to cool down before storing it away this normally take's an hour for the oil to cool down sufficiently.

When storing the fryer away all you need to do is place the chip basket to the bottom of the fryer and pop the lid on, the handle of the basket will fold down but if your like me and normaly use your oil a couple of time's before changing it i'd advice that you don't fold the handle unless you don't mind getting your finger's all oily next time you use the fryer.

The design of the lid enables you to be able to leave the chip basket in the fryer as it has handle slots cut into it .

My final thoughts are that although the fryer is teeny tiny looks are very deceiving it is a very useful appliance to have and a very welcome addition to my kitchen.

If you are wanting to buy a new Deep fat fryer you will be able to pick this one up at Argos i'm not sure of the actual price but i think it was in the region of £16.
