I would recommend this graphics package to anyone. It may not be the easiest programme to use, but like everything, the more you use it the better you get to know it. When we first got our home computer it came preloaded with MGI photosuite. Not a bad programme for a beginner and it certainly kept me entertained for some time. (My late father-in-law was over the moon with the picture I printed off for him. He originally held a 6lb carp in his hands - but by the miracle of technology it grew to 20lbs plus!!!) Within a short space of time I had more or less mastered everything MGI had to offer. I was eager to learn more.

Working out the basic jobs it could do was quite easy (having used a graphics package before), the more "experienced" tools took a little longer to master. I am afraid I am one of those people who would just sooner sit and work things out for myself than reading the instruction manual from cover to cover! However, I do admit to referring to it every now and again.
When people questioned me as to what graphics package I used, a lot of them whince away. I lost count of the number of people who said that Paint Shop Pro was the best package to use, so I decided to give it a whirl. It is very similar in a lot of ways to Corel, but I found the layout to be untidy (It doesn't have the flow like Corel does), it certainly boasts a lot of extras and the animation package is excellent. Advantages: Very flexible and powerful, lots of extras Disadvantages: Sometimes crashes
...I soon gravitated back to Corel and I've found it can do pretty much everything I want from such a system.
It's good at manipulating photos and some of the filters, effects and other tools are first rate. I've never come across anything that I couldn't find a way to do with PhotoPaint and despite a disturbing propensity for crashing, this is my graphics package of choice. Even that problem has been more or less fixed by reinstalling the program ... ...virtually everything with just this one tool. I found that the only thing Fireworks was better at was producing GIFs with transparent backgrounds.
I've heard some worrying things recently about Corel maybe going to the wall and that's a shame because I've been very happy with this program. ...

...Photoshop or other packages, but Corel Photopaint is easy to use and useful for editing any kind of image. I even decided to use it for creating a web-site where it provided me with the right means for producing all my images.
It is usually paired on the same CD as Corel Draw which is also useful for creating graphics, the two interact very well. Though I would say that Corel Photopaint is more user friendly and would reccomend it as a beginners ...

Advantages: Cheaper than Photoshop Disadvantages: Not much development / plug-ins.
Corel Photo Draw is only second because of the amount of plug-ins available for Photoshop and becasue it lacks the same sort of development, although as a package for someone who does quite a lot of graphics work, but doesn't need all the advanded features that Photoshop offers, Corel Photo Paint is a very respectable choice. Its interface for scanners (Corel Scan) is excellent and it is useful for people designing web graphics. It is a cheaper alternative ...
