Twil Be Shelley Not Roy That Comes A Cropper

Advantages: Kate Ford
Disadvantages: She Keeps Returning My Emails

...I say, I just love Coronation Street and have done for years. To be honest I blame my mother for introducing me to this soap but then I also blame her for my poor clothing throughout my childhood and giving me no real attention as a child leading me to the person I am today……

Still let's go visit the people that make up the Street and have a bit of a laugh on the way, "hey can I come too", yeah sure you can Art, mmm that ...
...the main story has to be Shelley and Charlie and at this wedding methinks there will be two charlies at the wedding. Like come on Shelley for gods sake sort it out girl. He has bedded your mum ( jeeez have you seen her mum, I wouldn't even go there ) he has bedded Liz (again what a thought) and he has made a move on Violet (now deff would make a move there).. Shelley used to be a great character as proven by her giving Peter Barlow the boot and now ... more

Chocolate Cats And Four Times A Week With Dev

Advantages: Great acting, great cast, good storylines, humour, longevity
Disadvantages: Football shifts it off its 7:30pm slot sometimes!

...written an opinion on Classic Coronation Street (shown on Granada Plus) which basically presented an overview of the programme. But I also wanted to write about the regular four-times-a-week Corrie, so here I am again on one of my favourite subjects. I have been a viewer of this soap for some twenty-five years, but it is one programme that is just as good today – and, as those who have read other opinions by me might have noticed – that ...
...Another winning factor for Coronation Street is its humour, again contrasting to EastEnders, which has a reputation for being depressing. Personally, I love them both, but yes, Corrie is lighter, fluffier and has more “silly” characters, always guaranteed to make you smile. These days, Weatherfield is multi-racial and currently tackling the issue of arranged marriages, with Sunita holed up in Dev’s flat. (Personally, I wouldn’t ...

What do a Monkey & Prince Charles have in common?

Advantages: More familiar than your furniture...
Disadvantages: Ciao are being decidedly tongue-in-cheek calling this a drama...

...Charles have both appeared on Coronation Street! Strange, but true…and so have Joanna Lumley, Ben Kingsley, Cliff Richard and Noddy Holder for that matter. ****************************************************** I’m Australian and that is exactly why I have always had a weak spot for the great British institutions…crumpets and tea, fetes on the Vicarage lawn, cricketing whites and cucumber sandwiches. Yet nothing quite sums up the British spirit ...
...as a six week show, Coronation Street first graced our screens on the 9th of December 1960 and has been running either as a twice-weekly or (now) thrice-weekly half hour ITV (Granada) show every week since…so by my reckoning that means that tomorrow night’s show will be 41 years and ten months old…not bad going for a six-parter eh? Based in the mythical Mancunian outpost of Weatherfield, characters have come and gone but the cobbled streets and ...

Do You Remember Hilda

Advantages: A few redheads
Disadvantages: Not enough redheads

Coronation Street………..All Those Years of Characters…… I hate to give my age away ,but I guess being called art1954 does that anyway. My first memory of the good old Street must be about the late sixties. I used to just catch bits of it on a rare night when I had nothing to do. My mum always watched it so I just sat and watched bits here and there because back then believe it or not I had a life. I actually went out a ...
...The old characters like Ena Sharples and Minnie Caldwell, god what about that old bag Ena Sharples. Was she an old battleaxe or what, she would have any of the new characters in the Street for breakfast. Or Ken Barlow’s old uncle Albert Tadlock, my vote for the most miserable soap character ever.. Other characters over the years, well Hilda and Stan Ogden. Good old Hilda and her rollers, like I mean to say, just how long do you women keep rollers ...

The street or the square.

Advantages: Easy viewing, and people watching.
Disadvantages: Can get a little involved.

...a word. The programme is Coronation Street. INTRODUCTION. The programme is a soap opera and is based in Manchester. The general set is a street in the city, although other scenes or sets are used at various times, and not all the following places are actually in the street, but they are all in or around it. The street has a corner shop, come sweet shop, post office. There is a pub called the Rovers Return, and this is very central to many of ...
...very real problems. In Coronation street people seem to maintain a consistency with their character, unlike East Enders where people regularly have personality transplants. One of the things that always strikes me about Coronation Street is that it makes me laugh quite regularly with certain characters such as Jack and Vera. They are exactly how I imagine a couple married as long as them, behave. Coronation Street maintains a constant balance between ...

SCARE OR SAVE

Advantages: Highlights an embarrassing and difficult subject
Disadvantages: Could scare people, and must be handled senstitively

...on Dooyoo, of people criticising Coronation Street for the way that they dealt with Alma's condition, and the rate at which she went downhill and sadly died on Sunday. Cancer comes in various guises and sufferers die at different rates, dependant on how far the cancer has spread. Often sufferers fail to be diagnosed until the sufferer has secondaries, by which point it is often (although not always) difficult to do anything about it. ALMA As I ...
...is possibly too late. Coronation Street In my opinion, it dealt with it effectively and portrayed what could possibly be to someone a very real situation, no-one except an expert can judge the spread and damage of cancer, and therefore how can any of us novices pass judgement? THE MORAL? If you haven't had a smear, make sure you have one - whats less then 10 mins embarrassment compared to possibly dying, or suffering months of horrendous chemotherapy? ...

'KILLER CORRIE' - HAVE THINGS GONE TOO FAR

Advantages: Good sense of fun - great characters
Disadvantages: It tries some of the more serious stuff and fails

Of all the various soap operas on UK terrestrial television, there is probably only one of which I would describe myself an avid viewer – and that is Coronation Street. Despite the fact that the series has been running for nearly 40 years, it still has a fresh, vibrant feel to it and for escapist television, I don’t think it can really be beaten. Currently screened on ITV1 at least four times per week, this show is, for me anyway, compulsive viewing and in spite of my better judgement, I regularly find myself discussing events when in the office. THE SETTING As you are no doubt aware, Coronation Street is set in a fictitious district of Greater Manchester called Weatherfield. Most of the action centres around one street – as named in the title – where we observe the events and lives of a mixture of residents ...

Review of ITV - Coronation Street

40 Years On And No Sign Of Flagging

Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion

~ ~ What is there about Coronation Street, the soap drama about everyday life in a typical Manchester working class street, that has kept it at the top of the ratings on a consistent basis ever since the very first episode way back in the mists of time in December of 1960? At that time there was only two channels in the UK, good old “aunty” herself, the BBC, and ITV, the one with the adverts. And there was no competition from the BBC with programmes like Neighbours, as there is now. ~ ~ I was just turned nine years old when this soap first hit our screens, in all its black and white glory, the same age as my own daughter is today. And I grew up with this programme, which was staple diet twice a week in our household, and God help you if you dared to open your mouth while it was on!! Then there were characters like ...

Classic Corrie From The Eighties

Advantages: great chance to catch up on old episodes
Disadvantages: none

When we decided to finally get Digital TV last year, one of the main reasons was to watch the old episodes of soap operas. Classic Coronation Street is one of the highlights on Granada Plus, being shown weekdays at midday - the perfect time to stop writing on Ciao and sit down in front of the TV with a sandwich and a cuppa. It is also repeated early in the evening. I first watched Coronation Street in the 1970s, but remember most from the 1980s. I remember Hilda and Stan Ogden, in their room with the tacky flying ducks and the landscape “muriel” on the wall… Alan Bradley with his cruelty towards our beloved Rita, and his much deserved demise under a Blackpool tram. ... His teenage daughter, Jenny, who was around my age and a bit of a role model at the time, but looking back, those ra-ra skirts and huge plastic ...
