I got pregnant with my third child just as my daughter, my second child, was turning one years old. This posed a big problem for me....
I needed a double buggy as something like a buggy board wasn't suitable; I have to walk my eldest child (who is 5) to and from school every day, and if my daughter (being the little independent madam that she is) decided to run off or have a tantrum it would be a complete nightmare not having her strapped in. BUT I also needed a buggy that would be easy to store in the house (with 3 kids, space is a premium!) and would also fit in the boot of my Renault Clio without having to take the parcel shelf off (which I already had to do for my Graco Quattrosingle pushchair!) and would also fit through my
front door (once put up) so I could put the kids in it inside the house and push it out through the door - which ruled out 99% of the side-by-side doubles....
After MANY hours of searching online, I found my saving grace!! The Cosatto Duet Lite! It ticked EVERY single box of all my requirements! It was an umbrella folding tandem buggy!
I ordered it in February (06) ready for my newborn and daughter at the end of March, from an online store and paid £159.99 for it, with no delivery charges. I was weary of doing it without having physically seen the buggy and having read a very limited amount of reviews on it. It arrived within a few days. My daughter instantly took to it - I had to wait until she had gone for a nap before I could put it back in the box!
It was everything I had hoped it would be. Size-wise, it was perfect!!!! I had been concerned about the height of the handles, being only 5ft 1in myself, but I needn't have worried!
Having been using it for 6 weeks now, I can safely say that I absolutely love it! My daughter (now almost 22 months old and weighing in at 30lbs) fits nicely into the front of the buggy, and my son is "coccooned" in the back compartment, warm and safe!
Yes, it IS heavy to get up kirbs, but honestly, it is so much easier to get up the kirbs than any of the other tandemdouble buggies I tried with my daughter in the front. Manouvering around small shop aisles is not a problem - if anything, I'd say it's easier to manouvere than my single Graco!
It is also very simple to collapse and open up... You just pull the handles up and push the back bar with your foot to open, and pull that same back bar up (with a specifically designed handle there) and then pull the catches on each handle backwards to release and bob's you're uncle, it's collapsed!
The hoods are very handy... They have a "viewing window" on them, so you can see your children as you are pushing the buggy. These are also very easy to take off the buggy if you don't want them! I found the hood on the front seat to be very useful when it's windy - it keeps the wind from my daughter's face, so I don't need to use the raincover (which she hates!) and my son is still tucked up inside his "coccoon" in the back, protected from the wind.
It also has a small shopping basket - ok, not as big as on some of the doubles, but enough to carry a nappy bag or a few bits and bobs.
The method of adjusting the back seat's recline position in my mind is very clever. Instead of the usual standard 2 or 3 recline positions, it is adjusted by by a strap and clamp - you just pull the strap and slide the clamp up it to push the seat into more of an upright position, therefore able to have it at any point between fully sitting up and fully reclined. Also, when bubs in the back gets a little older it has a velcro fastened opening in which his feet will go through, with a little rest in there. My daughter has already tried this part out and at her size now (wearing age 2-3 clothes) she fits in there comfortably.
One of the things I really do like about it is the typres. They're air filled ones (and the buggy does come with a pump, if you need to pump the wheels up a bit) so it feels very soft to push and the kids hardly feel a bump! The brake is also very easy to use and it seems very strong. With my two wrigglers in there on a slight slope, the brake has held.
Ok, so I guess I better mention a few of the niggly bits to it....
When it's folded and you need to lift it up into the car boot or whatever it seems quite heavy indeed for an umbrealla fold.... I don't know how this compares to other tandems/doubles, but not really any heavier than my graco. I guess the weight is the price you pay for having a very sturdy and seemingly long lasting double buggy!
Also, I've not yet found a way to clip the buggy closed when it's collapsed without taking the hoods off - they seem to be in the wrong place for the catch to close - I'm assuming it's a slight design flaw! The carrying handle on the side would be put to much more use I'm sure if I were able to clip the buggy closed while the hoods were still on.
Also, now I'm being picky, it can get a little annoying pushing it for a while when the back seat is fully reclined... It does stick out, a little... But like I said, I am being picky!
For those of you who want to try it out but can't find the Cosatto, Mothercare have a practically identical one in their stock, albeit a little more expensive than the Cosatto, which is why I chose to buy the cosatto.
So, all in all, I'm 99.9% happy with the choice I made!
A very good, easily manouverable tandem buggy which solves all my space/size problems, and one my children are happy to sit in, and one I'm happy to be seen with!
If anyone wants to ask any specific questions about it (which I would have loved to have done before I bought it!) just comment on the review and I'll try my best to answer you!

Thanks so much for your detailed review. I bought the Kidz Kargo tandem originally and have never hated anything quite so much in my life. I have just ordered the cosatto, but wondered if i'd done the right thing. Your review has put my mind at rest completely. Thanks again.

Great review! I'm considering buying this for when no.2 is due next spring and no.1 will only be 20 mo. I have a couple of questions, if you get a chance to answer them... Is it true that the front seat doesn't recline at all (I think I read this in another review)? What's it like to push/steer one-handed if you have no.1 in the back and no.2 happens to be walking while holding your hand (sometimes buggies with 2 handles can be tricky to push with one hand only)? Is the fabric OK, or does it need some kind of snuggly liner for the baby in the back seat?

This was a brilliant review as it covered all aspects I would need to know. I have had the same experience as my children are close in age too. I have an umbrella fold tandem which came from asda (Kingswood make) and this too will not clip up with the hoods on. Yours sounds better as mine has really small wheels which is a bit hard to push.
