The game is significantly different from the original Cossacks. The formations are similar, but you can know do things like rank firing and the reloading time is know similar to real life. In the army you can recruit different men and you can chose how many of each type of unit you want. The armies are then moved from province to province in turns. Whenever your army attacks or is attacked you end up fighting a battle on a map: this is where most of the strategy comes in. The campaign is won when you control Europe. more

The skirmish is quite different. You start with some peasants and you have to build a city, troops and attack. I find that the skirmishes are difficult at first until you get used to it, but then its fine.
The game is great and you should definitely buy it.

Just not as good as the first one. It was a hard test trying to beat Cossacks EW, but this game has a much shorter shelf-life and destruction/killing just isnt as fun anymore. The graphics are better and it does look nicer, but by trying to go a step up, they've lost more than they have gained with this sequel. ...

Like previous versions it allows you, the player, to control large armies made up of thousands of men and war machines as you face off against other armies commanded by the computer A.I. in an attempt to conquer territory for your country. Fans of the original will find this most noticeable, the game itself lacks a scenario editor for players to design their own maps. Cossacks 2 is based on the battles of the Napoleonic Wars. It is suitable for ages 12 plus, although my 10 year old son plays it considerably better than me! It comes on two cd roms but you only require the second disk to actually play the game. The following are the system requirements:-

Video: 64MB DirectX 8.1 compatible
Sound: DirectX 8.1 compatible
DirectX: 8.1 or higher
CD-ROM: ... ...games are your thing, then Cossacks II is for you. There is quite a lot to think about and it takes a while to master all the techniques required. In my opinion this is a follow on game, not one to start with if you have never played before. If you do buy it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. ...
