Disadvantages: Slowly slowly catchy monkey

...advisor. Although the guy from Countrywide (Taylors, Dixons, Spencers estate agents) was on a commission to sell me a mortgage, his advise was very fair and impartial. We talked through a bundle of options and came up with one that suited my needs (100% mortgage and a one year transfer for free get out clause).
2 days after starting to look round (10 June 2000) I found a house I really liked anmd put in an offer that was accepted on the Monday.
...the end of July.
My tips for first time buyers:
1) Shop around for a solicitor. I am using conveyancing live who although they cost a bit more than the cheaper ones give you access to a web site where you can check the progress of your move (55live.com). They also don't charge you until you complete.
2) Don't immediately take the life assurance and buidlings insurance you are offered. I've saved £35 a month by shopping around.

You replied again to the same complaint letter dated 15 June where I requested a Final response. This time you have replied in a different manner and admitted the failures of your company on two of my complaints. You replied on the other issues with unsatisfactory excuses and statements and I will detail these below. 1. Knowingly ...

Mann and Co - Expensive

Advantages: good service
Disadvantages: pushy and expensive

Through their high street agent Mann and Co, this company has provided various property and valuation for over 100 of years. The downside of this estate agent is that they tend to price the price of the property up and plays the number games with the buyer. Also, they can be rather agressive at time and push the buyer hard to put in a higher price. Therefore, fisrt time buyer with little experience may end up paying more than they should. Due to ...

MANN Countrywide (part of Countrywide Assured)

Advantages: Erm... they didn't smell too bad
Disadvantages: Takes advantage of the first time buyer! never calls - see below for rest of story...

*All real names have been forgotten... A couple of years ago, my girlfriend and I decided to buy our own place. We looked around, and shortly found a nice little flat. It was being sold by MANN estate agents. The first peron we spoke to was an agent - lets call her "Helen", who was very nice, smiley and sympathetic to our situation (not big earners trying to buy our first property). She showed us the flat and we fell in love with it, but hadn't ...
...their in-house financial advisor to help us get a mortgage and go through our personal finances - Lets call him "Lee" - This is where the trouble started... Lee found us a mortgage and agreed it, and then it "fell through" and the mortgage lenders wouldn't lend us the money. To happen once was a blow to us, but then it happened again, and again and again. With a different lender and a different excuse every time. In the end, we had only one option, ...

MANN COUNTRYWIDE ESTATE AGENTS

Advantages: THERE ARE NONE
Disadvantages: POOR SERVICE HIGH PRICES

Mann Countrywide offer a poor over-priced service to vendors they never return phone calls - do not give feedback from viewers or update you on what they are doing to sell your home! all in all they are lazy and seem to do as little as possible to sell your property! Having had a bad experience with them some 16 years ago like a fool I instructed them to sell our home back in july 07. they dropped our asking price by £40,000 and put us on the market ...

Robinsons Rental Service

Advantages: Wide range of homes in every price range and area.
Disadvantages: They don't really give the homes a good inspection before sale/rental.

We decided to rent a home when I relocated here from the USA. So we looked with different agents and at many homes. We finally found one that was both a decent location and a decent home...so we thought. Robinson's Estate Agents handled our application which seemed to take ages to process...and we had to call and bug them on a regular basis, because they never kept us up to date on things. Finally, we were able to move in and we discovered...that ...
...she wanted them back. That was a bit of a scene because apparently she had been thrown out...YIKES...talk about uncomfortable. We discovered only after we had moved in that the electric and gas had been put on prepay meters!!!!! Something I would expect Robinson's to mention to us....We had no gas or electric and we moved in on a Friday evening!!! They basically left it up to us to get that all sorted and meters changed...GREAT eh? It gets better...we ...

Pays to shop around

Advantages: Uses your post code to determine cover
Disadvantages: The calculation for insuring cover

I joined Countrywide Assured Insurance Services back in July 1999. At the time I was a first time buyer and was looking for a competitive home contents rate to cover me for the first year. I had never heard of countrywide Assured but chose them because I had arranged my mortgage through one of their independent mortgage representatives and wanted something less complicated while I sorted myself out. Their home contents insurance is arranged by Guardian Insurance and is designed for people looking for contents cover at a competitive price, which was just what I needed. In order to get cover from Countrywide Assured you have to qualify all 6 requirements. These are: You require contents cover only for your home Your postcode area is where minimum security is required The home is self-contained The home is not lent, or sublet ...

theidol.co.uk should be your first option

Advantages: Very Cheap
Disadvantages: Only available on-line

I was told by a Life & Disability Underwriter at SwissRe to go to this website. I was shocked by how much cheaper the rates on this website were, when compared to say normal IFA rates. They operate on the basis that they take a massive commission sacrifice to get the cheapest premiums, and then sell a load of policies. Basically on-line quote monkeys. My original Life Cover with Countrywide Assured, who arranged my first mortgage gave me Decreasing Term and CIC for about £55k, which I was paying £28 per month. I got a quote from theidol.co.uk and was given £100,000 level cover for the same original term (and being 3 years older) and got it for £16pcm. Nearly half the price for twice the cover! I would suggest that theidol.co.uk should be your first port of call, then get a quote elsewhere to check. *******UPDATE ...
