...Courgettes. (Just a quick note, courgettes are called Zucchinis in America just in case you didn't know!)
I've grown them for a couple of years running now and am starting to think of myself as quite an expert. The reason I think I'm a bit of an expert is that I've had to eat so many courgettes this year to keep up with the plants that I'm starting to look like one. Every time I looked at the courgettes on my allotment another two or three fruits ... ...courgette plants and although the Courgettes got shared out between friends and family there was still quite a few to deal with. I had to make chutney with them in the end to make sure I didn't waste any. (I hate wasting stuff).
I'll start off telling you a bit about the technical stuff:
Courgette Types

Advantages: low in calories Disadvantages: not much vitamin content
Marrows and courgettes are from the same family as pumpkins and squashes. Courgettes are young marrows. They need to be picked quickly once they reach the size of a cucumber, if left for a few more days they will turn into marrows.
Marrows are the size of a large watermelon and have a harder skin than courgettes and need to be peeled. Inside there is white flesh and lots of large seeds that need to be scooped out. With courgettes you can eat the ... ...them too. Courgettes are juicier than marrows. The flowers that turn into courgettes can be fried and eaten to.
There is not a massive amount of taste to marrows but they can be stuffed with savoury mince and baked. I like to make marrow and cheese (similar to cauliflower cheese) served with green veg and boiled potatoes. They are also good coated in vegemite and roasted this gives it extra flavour. Marrow can also be used to make wine, whisky and ...

Advantages: Easy to grow and cook Disadvantages: can be nibbled by mice
Courgettes are the most amazing vegetable to grow – I always thought that they were far too exotic and difficult to grow in a cold climate. In fact, the very opposite is true, you can grow courgettes anywhere, even on a balcony or patio. In addition to being easy to grow even from seed they have a very large pretty yellow flower, so look quite attractive. When the flowers appear, you know you have a courgette because the vegetable is underneath it. ... ...in anything. Courgettes cooked immediately after picking taste much better than in the shops. My only problem with them last year was that something was nibbling them – I think it was a wee field mouse, so I throw a net over them. Sorry, little mouse but these are my courgettes!!! There are lots of different ways to cook them once they have grown. The easiest way is just to chop them and fry in butter with salt and pepper – really nice. Ratatouille ...

Advantages: plenty of manure will give you a good crop of courgettes. Disadvantages: can dampen off if too wet
courgettes from seed are quite easy to grow provided you don't overwater in the early stages of growth, once the small courgette plant appears you are on your way.
I love the taste of courgettes, add them to any meal especially with onions, tomatoes, garlic and mushrooms, what a treat, add an indian oxo cube and you have a meal fit for a king.
Courgettes are a very greedy crop, they like plenty of well rotted manure, I always grow them on a ridge, ... ...though.
I have grown yellow courgettes this year for a change, they really do look good to look at, I hope that they taste as good as they look.
If you forget to pick the courgettes in time then you will have marrows, thats o.k. as well, you can take out the center and fill with anything you like, wrap in foil and oven bake, delicious.
happy courgette growing.... ...

Anyone can grow Courgettes , they are childs play . All they are in fact are a younger version of a marrow . A courgette becomes a marrow when it is left on the plant and not picked early. In effect they are the same vegetable at different stages of maturity !
The family is called Curbita and other members include the pumpkin , marrow and squashes.
The main requirements are well manured soil and plenty of moisture when the ground gets dry .
Apart ... ...Slugs can be a problem in wet Springs but few pests attack this family .
A variety I would reccomend is Zucchini this really is a good doer .
Plants should be ready to crop in mid July from a late May sowing outdoors.
Why not have a go , the flavour beats anything in the shops. ...
