Over the few years before his PS2 debut,Crash Bandicoot: the Wrath of Cortex, he's appeared in various PSone titles--usually Mario wannabe platformers, but there've also been blatantMario PartyandMario Kartrip-offs in the shapes ofCrash BashandCrash Team Racing.Never less than fun, yet never a realistic contender when compared against the genre-definingMario 64, Crash has sometimes received a fairly rough ride from the press. With original developers Naughty Dog passing on the chance to produce a PS2 version, Travellers Tales have created this effort, and in terms of gameplay, there's no progression here whatsoever. This is Crash as we know and tolerate him, albeit with fancier lighting effects. All the familiar faces return, including (obviously, given the title) arch-goon Dr Cortex. And it's great, as it goes. Ignore the on-rails nature of the gameplay and the dismally slow loading times; it's unlikely you'll come across a jauntier, more ridiculous, stupid-brilliant game for some time. As well as the usual platform action, there are mine-cart chasesá la Indiana Jones&The Temple of Doom, hysterically playableMarble Madness-style levels, secrets, bonuses, vehicles, new moves; all kinds of everything, as Dana might have put it if she were into video games rather than winning the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest. Simple to pick up and play, crammed with outlandish ideas, colourful, loud and a laff riot into the bargain, it would be a hard heart that didn't warm to this old 'coot. --Steve Colton

This review is about the game Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, this is a not bad game. I got this game for my 14th birthday, along with other games and the XBOX console. This game is about Crash Bandicoot trying to defeat Cortex once and for all. In the other Crash Bandicoot games, he never defeats Cortex, he always knocks him out, or lets him escape, all same story. The game stars the characters of Crash Bandicoot, Coco (Crash Bandicoot's Extremely Smart Sister), Aku Aku (An ancient witchdoctor that helps out Crash Bandicoot in his travels). These are all great good guys, i'm not a super fan of Crash Bandicoot, but it still entertains me when I’m bored, or fancy playing an RPG on my XBOX, then Crash.... here I come.
Crash Bandicoot and his Sister Coco, have come to a far place to stop Neo Cortex (the main bad guy in this game), they use the same warpers as from the 3rd Crash Bandicoot, you use the teleporters to get to different worlds, so you can find a key and a crystal. Once you have got them from all the levels in this world, then you can go to the middle portal, and fight the boss, there is a boss for each area, and a certain amount of levels on each world, and it gets harder each time you get to the next level, and next world. Crash Bandicoot is a Kyoto, I think; he is like a fox that can stand like a human. Coco is the same, but a female, with long yellow hair in a poney tail. Uka Uka is a mask, that when you find it in a crate, then he will give you like a second life, instead of when you get hit once, you will die, and you will die in two hits. If you find 3 of the masks, you will go into super mode, and you can kill anything in your way.
There is secret level, in each portal, if you get all the crates, you will win a life at the end. You get the key on the portal levels when you smash all the crates in the area, to get the crystal, well you will find it when your near the end of the level, you will find it, its a tall green crystal, you cant miss it.
You can do quite a few moves; if you push (B) then you will do your spin move, when you can knock away enemies, of open crates. (A) is jump; you can jump on crates to open them, or jump on the ones that bounce, so you get more apples. Apples are like rings (from Sonic), when you get 100 apples, you will get a life, but when you get hit and you don’t have a Aku Aku mask, then you will die straight off not like Sonic now.
You can find apples in the crates, and some times when you defeat an enemy. You don’t just find them growing off trees in this game; you need to move... you know what I mean. In some levels you will be able to play in a vehicle, like on the second portal on the first world, you are on a plane, and you have to shoot this turbine things that are creating tornado's, there are 6 altogether, and there are other planes shooting at you too, but you don’t have a set time, so that’s good.
Neo Cortex is a short person with a massive head; on his forehead he has a giant N, for Neo. He wears a white scientist suit, and he has black hair sticking out of his ears, and a small bit sticking up in the middle of his forehead, he also has a beard around his mofo mouth, very big mouth. There are some levels when you are Coco, as Crash Bandicoot might be captured, or not bothering to do it lol! Coco is a good character; you get to play her in the Crash Racing games, as she is one of the drivers. I like Coco, she has good moves, roughly the same as Crash Bandicoot, but she’s a female, like a straight transfer, accept the looks.
The game is not short, not short at all; it is a long winded game, like the Zelda games, accepts Wind Waker that one is well too short. You need not a lot of strategy for this game, you just need the brains, and the know how. I am not a big fan, but I still love these games, I use to own the first Crash Bandicoot once, it was superb. The thing I like about this one is that you can play as Coco, and you get to use vehicles, and other things. Each level has its own uniqueness to it, like some are spooky and creepy, and some are when you are out in the snow and Ice. I hate the ones when you have something chasing you; it gets hard then, and puts a cold sweat on you sometimes.
Crash Bandicoot has a brother, called Crunch, he was created by Neo Cortex, he is 10 times stronger than Crash Bandicoot, and 10 times dumber lol! Crunch becomes friends with Crash, and he is in this game. He has become the brother of Crash Bandicoot, and they help each other out as much as they can. You cant play with him, well not as far as I know of, if there’s a cheat or a secret level, or whatever really.
In some of the levels you have to dodge lasers and other obstacles, these are within the portal levels, as you go along. Many worlds to visit, well 5 altogether, and there’s 8 or so portals in each world, that need completing so you can fight the boss of the world, and so you can claim that you own it, and you will take control of it muwahahahaha, sorry, got a bit carried away there. Some portal levels, you will get to be Crash in a robot suit, which seams really cool, it’s hardish to control though.
Special Features All new graphics engine Complete specific levels of the game as Crash's fiery sister Coco New free-roam sections will be implemented within certain levels of the game The most vehicles ever seen in a Crash game New characters Unlock arena levels and get ready to rumble, as either Crash or Coco There are loads of features, complete with an all new hardcore Crash Bandicoot game; I’m talking about this one if you did not know that.
The Graphics for this game are superb, I own this on the XBOX, but I think it is a straight transfer from the Playstation 2, which has dumbed down the graphics for the XBOX ones. The game is as smooth as you can imagine, well not that smooth, hey stop thinking, its not that smooth, its XBOX smooth. The graphics for all the characters, just great, the levels, the enemies, can’t get much better, unless it Final Fantasy, nothing is better than that.
The sound of the game is great, their voices are good, it’s not in Japanese or anything, even though I think you might be able to change it to that if you really want to, but I assume it will be just Japanese subtitles. There are many different languages that you can change it to, you will be able to do this function at the beginning of the game, if not, go to options, and it will have it in there.
The music is Crash Bandicoot style, not bad by the way, but it could have been better, in what way you say, ill tell you. It could have had music that was real, but then it would have been copy right, so I say its ok how it is...
I like this game because, I like all XBOX games, and I also think that Crash Bandicoot and his gang are great characters.

Advantages: Good little platform game, addictive and challenging Disadvantages: Can become tiresome and difficult to complete
For those who are unaware, Crash Bandicoot is a long running title that began on the playstation. Now in yet another incarnation, it has been ported onto the XBox - and quite well actually.
CONTROLS:
The draw of this game is the fact that you can pick it up and play in seconds. There are no fast button combinations to master and you can basically run through the early levels to pass them without any difficulty. Smart gamers will soon wisen up and
... ...You use the left analogue stick to move, with the buttons use to jump and 'flatten' things should you wish. You can also attack things while standing up, although they have to be close. Good for breaking boxes and such like, harder to defeat enemies as the timing has to be just right.
Other than that, it's pretty simple really.
THE GAMEPLAY:
The game is based on a simple idea, which is what makes it so addictive. You basically have to get from ...

Advantages: Great game for young children and adults alike. Disadvantages: The camera angle can be a little difficult to judge jumps correctly.
...much room for error.
Graphical Crash looks like it has been ported straight over from the PSX2, this is one area that could have been improved.
The game has been more targetted at young children than adults and besides the jumping sequences it is easy to get into.
As to whether this game could beat Blinx or Taz, I think that this is on par with Taz Wanted but falls short of beating Blinx The Time Sweeper.
If you have young children, then this ...

Advantages: Fluid Gameplay, Cars Planes and Rollerballs, Good Bonus Levels, Well Animated Graphics, Excellent Imaginitive Scenes. Disadvantages: Fiddly Controls, Repetitive Gameplay, Uninspired Music, Difficulty towards end, Static Enemies, Camera Angles Somewhat Clumsy.
The somewhat outmoded series of Crash Bandicoot cartoon style games reaches its climax with the latest edition The Wrath of Cortex. After Being Beaten too many times by the grinning Bandicoot Dr.Cortex decites to create a super-monster called Crash, a big bandicoot with a bigger grin, to destroy the bizarre creature once and for all. As Crash fights for his life in this imaginatively animated world the Gameplay is continuous and occasionally witty ... ...by clumsy views and controls. The levels move well the first time you play them with surprises abound, but nothing is that new and often a boring level ends up getting played dozens of time before it can be completed. So, in other words, The Wrath of Cortex is good for a month, but soon becomes tiresome. ...
